KGO Anybody noticed the hum during local newscast?

I live near Seattle and get KGO really well at night and I've noticed a hum on the local newscasts. I heard it again tonight on the 11:05 news with George (Ozavito?). This is nothing new as I've heard it over the last few months. Is it a fan running...or a ground loop? I hear it the worst in the car which has more low end. For a station as big as KGO you wouldn't expect hum behind the newsman's voice. John Rothman came on right after it and there was no hum. Anybody else noticed this?

might be a piece of equipment in the newsroom like a cellphone charger

I haven't heard it, but if it's during a George Azevedo newscast the problem would be somewhere from Metro Traffic Control to KGO, not in a KGO studio.

I didn't know George Azevedo was not at KGO. I wouldn't have thought it possible that KGO would not have a news person at the station. Since I can't get KGO until 8:30 or so here in Washington State, is there anyone on duty at KGO during the day? Amazing.

I didn't hear any hum in the George Azevedo KGO newscast at 11:05 this evening. Don't know if it's intermittent but it's gone for now.

Can't get KGO? Huh? What? Have you heard of the...um...Internet? You can get KGO 24/7 via their stream. KGO has a full news staff, as well as 3 news blocks (morning and afternoon drive and noon hour) and it appears that they've actually added two more news people these past several weeks.

KGO just uses Metro for news between I think 11pm and 5am. But they also have news people on call should some big story develop.

I notice, more and more, that there is a hum in the background of most AM radio stations...maybe something to do with power lines.
In SLC, I find it is mostly noticeable on the stronger, local stations. You'd think it would overpower the weak signal instead.

A very directional antenna, like a shielded loop or ferrite helps a lot.
