KGO does a 30 second TV promo on KGO-TV 7

What did the promo feature? A closed factory in the rust belt with weeds growing in the parking lot and newspaper and other trash blowing around??

More like a deserted concrete building near the Dumbarton toll plaza inhabited by vagrants using a rusty old 50,000-watt Nautel transmitter to keep warm and weeds growing out of the antenna tuning units.

Perhaps the same vagrants who burnt down the Dumbarton railroad bridge.

Bret Burkhart and Chris Brecher Saying that KGO Does 10 minutes of Non-stop news in the Bay Area. Thats what the TV promo said.

I tuned in to Ronn Owens yesterday, and KGO ran a promo touting their "local News" coverage - I don't recall the exact wording, but the implication was that KGO is the best place to get local news and is better than their competitors. Compared to KQED, that would be valid because their local coverage is pretty skimpy. But compared to KCBS - don't think so.

This reminds me of KRON's positioning as "The Bay Area's News Station." It hasn't worked for them - last time I'm aware of, KRON had the lowest rated news in all time slots in which they have competition.

One does not imply the other. They can put out an excellent news service, but it doesn't mean people will watch it.

My comment did not imply that either KGO or KRON can't put out an "excellent news service," just that (IMO) KGO's promo echoed KRON's, and that it hasn't worked out so well for KRON. But I'll concede that one of KRON's problems is that they broadcast an inferior news service - that may not be true of KGO.

All the sloganeering about local news may get people to tune in, but it won't make them become regular listeners. They'll just go back to what they're used to for local radio news - KCBS - which is there for them 24/7.

Look Peter Finch did a Promo for KGO-AM today and it said "More Features" in the promo.
Look Cumulus owned KGO is just rehashing stuff that Merlin O&O's did in their promos like WEMP. KGO is really the station that should be owned by Merlin Inc. KGO is Just a West Coast WEMP.
I say Look at the NYC Boards they describe WEMP 101.9FM the same way we describe KGO-AM.

KRON is horrible and gives a very generic TMZ type vibe. Especially when Gary Radnich goes on with Daria and they gossip about hollywood and other meaningless crap. The only bright spot is the cute weather girl. Other than that they are awful and sensationalize things beyond believe, remember the Oscar Grant backlash in downtown Oakland? They showed the same dumpster fire for 3 hours acting like Armageddon was happening. Also Daria has a serious attitude problem, yes I've met her.
