KGO Talkshow Host Replacement POLL

For 10 to 1, I nominate David Kaye, David Jackson, and David Eduardo - billed as "The 3 Daves."

You guys could be the John and Ken...and uh...Dave...of the Bay Area

I'd go for that! Plus I get along with them nicely, so all the better.

Okay, here's the poll. It has two questions, one for Weeknights 10-1
and the other for Weekends 7-10. Who would you listen to 5 nights a
week and who would you like 2 nights a week? Multiple choices are okay!

Here are the results so far and it looks like 40% of the respondents want to hear Pat Thurston have a regular slot on KGO!

Who should do Karel's 7 to 10pm Saturday and Sunday night show? In other words, who would you like to listen to TWO nights a week?

Is it inferred that Farid-adel shifts C2CUFOs from KSFO to the bigger (KGO) stick?

C2C is live 10pm-2am PT, so I guess the 1-5am guy loses an hour?
From what I hear about him, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing... ;)

I think you mean implied rather than inferred, and I'm not implying anything. Someone suggested George Noory as a replacement for one of the two open shift, and I added him to the poll.

Just because someone is hosting a network talkshow does not mean that they wouldn't prefer to work at a local station with a better time slot.

I vote for Christine Craft 7 days a week! She's my buddy, she's smart, a true class act (you may not agree with her) but she rocks! Besides, she's damn cute!

I was going to offer up any of several people who'd make great hosts on KGO -- David Kaye, Dave Sholin, Ben Fong-Torres, Tom Ammiano, Terry McGovern... or any combination thereof.

Unfortunately, with DK, DJ and The Old Gringo paired up, KGO would probably have more people in the studio than they would have out there listening in Radioland.

Besides, which one of us would shut up long enough to allow the others to speak? It's a good thing none of us have opinions about anything...

Oh, I have no doubt that the three of us could mesmerize the audience, and not with radiotalk. There is lots of material we can mine.

With 123 votes in so far, Pat Thurston is still in the lead, voted for by 38% of the respondents. She and Angie Coiro have consistently led the pack both for the weeknights 10-1 and the weekends 7-10 slots ever since voting started.

The choices are automatically displayed in a different random order each time so as to minimize the tendency of people to vote only for people at the top of a list, as they sometimes do. Also, the poll software keeps track IP addresses of people who have voted so as to minimize multiple votes.

Here are the results so far in popularity order:

Who should do Karel's 7 to 10pm Saturday and Sunday night show? In other words, who would you like to listen to TWO nights a week?

38% (47) Pat Thurston
24% (30) Angie Coiro

5% (7) Melanie Morgan
4% (6) David Kaye
2% (3) Alex Bennett
1% (2) Joann Green
0% (1) George Noory

I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS GUY KAREL UNTIL FAIRLY RECENTLY. I WAS SURPRISED, KNOWING THEIR HISTORY, THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO PIPE IN A GUY FROM LONG BEACH. WAS HE REALLY THAT GOOD?

Did he get an audience? Yes. Was he good? Depends on your definition. His specialty was celebrity gossip, but he tried to cover serious news issues and failed badly. His political and cultural knowledge was near zero, and he boned up for his shows by watching CNN. His interviews were embarrassing. He was best when he talked about his personal life, his growing up in the slums of Long Beach, his late partner Andrew Howard with whom he did a daily show on KFI. I'd never heard the show, but people tell me that the show was largely Andrew with Karel providing levity.

Karel had a couple "dance hits" as a singer about 10 years ago, was a correspondent for Variety I believe, and covered such things as the Academy Awards, etc. I think he has a position on the nominating board for the Grammys. But he didn't incorporate much of any of this into his KGO show.

He got good ratings for KGO, though I think some people listened to the show just to see if he'd crash and burn. I know that this is what I did.

DAVID KAYE:

HAS IT OCCURRED TO YOU THAT SOME OF THE FOLKS WHO VOTED IN YOUR POLL
VOTED FOR THEMSELVES?

Yeah. Is Pat Thurston really voting for herself, though? Ever since the first day her percentage was higher than everyone else. Of course she could be voting for herself every day or something. The poll does have tracking cookies, so supposedly there is a little protection against multiple votes.
