KGOW website now online

I found 2 things I like so far...LSU football and Don & Mike. Does anyone know if they have plans to run HD on the new blowtorch?

A year ago I would have said that I was excited about LSU football on an AM station here, but now that the SEC has gone over to XM, I imagine I will be able to get most of the games on satellite radio. There may be one or two games where this will come in handy though!

On a side note, I would encourage all LSU fans to be upstairs at Woodrow's for the games. There is nothing else like it outside of Baton Rouge!!!

On a totally unrelated note, I also have it on very good authority that LSU will be offering their Executive MBA program here in the Houston area within the next year or so if all goes as planned. Interesting...

I went online today and I only heard music, exiting music. Like the one to pump up the players in movies and stuff but thats all I heard.

Good to know...I want an MBA and will qualify for in-state tuition next year. I'm a Sirius subscriber so no SEC games for me. Previously, it was WWL 870 (since most games were after dark) or wwl.com. Will checkout Woodrows. Thanks for the tip.

Just noticed something on the website...it says that KLVL 1480 will simulcast 1560 between 7pm and 10pm, and programming apparently will be exclusively on 1480 10pm to 6am. Wonder where this leaves the 100 watt temporary night transmitter?

Guess they will continue to purchase the overnight hours on KLVL until either the 1kw or 19kw KGOW night site is built and fired up.

It's an interesting arrangement, but the KLVL signal isn't that great, either. It's 500 watts from over in Pasadena on a frequency with some serious skywave from other stations. So I'd think that it's still a good idea for KGOW to continue pursuing the 100-watt nighttime thing for some kind of coverage on the west side of town. Everyone needs to remember that despite what the Chronicle article said, FCC approval hasn't been received and construction can't begin without it.

BTW, going to 1480 exclusively at 10:00 PM would technically be just for remainder of August. With earlier "sunset plus two hour" times occurring each month, the earliest start time for 1480-only programming would be in December, when it would occur at 7:30.

Just an opinion here about KGOW's plans for nighttime: go ahead and try for the 100-watt temporary fix. In the meantime, request that the construction permit for 1000 watts off Eldridge Parkway in the Addicks Reservoir area be dismissed. They're at the mercy of the Army Corps of Engineers while a land use study is underway and that could take forever. By canceling out that CP, KGOW could concentrate on their pending application to use another site north of Katy, but they should back off on their requested 19,000 watts since it's being protested by KMIC. Proposing lower power would improve their chances, and by requesting expedited action by the FCC they might get something decent on the air for nighttime in the foreseeable future. Otherwise I think they're just wasting their time.
