KGOW: Why are John & Lance Giving Up Their Show?

When did the John & Lance morning show become the "Marcus & Co." show? I have noticed over the last few months that Marcus Coleman is getting as much airtime as J&L everyday. What does that mean, at least from my humble point of view: (1) Fewer of the bits J&L do so well that made them the show that they are, (2) A sloppier more adlibbed program, (3) More devotion to the NFL off-season and less of current sports topics. We already have a morning program that does that (KILT), (4) Chasing away loyal listeners to the many other morning sports choices in the market.

I'm not bashing Marcus. He is an incredibly knowledgeabe NFL guy. He has good opinions on other topics, but he does not have the entertainment value the J&L bring to the show. I have also noticed that the show has become more of a party everyday with way too many people in their studio. It almost seems as if J&L have become lazy. All I have to say is: LOOK OUT! There's a lot of competition out there for programming that is getting better everyday.

Don't know if people on this board are regular listeners, but that is my take of a popular morning sports/talk show.

As a J&L listener for 8 years, I have to agree. The show just isn't quite as entertaining as it used to be. Maybe that should be expected as nothing can be great forever but it just isn't quite the same. It's almost as if they take the show/preparation less seriously now that they're running their own station.

I like Marcus a lot, but I think they'd be wise to only bring him in one or two days a week. Maybe more when the NFL season rolls around again but until then, a day or two a week is enough.

That said, I still listen nearly every day because even if J&L aren't quite what they used to, what else is there? Mike & Mike? Lopez and Innes having a contest to see who can make me reach for the dial first? I like the Adam half of Matt and Adam but an hour or so of that show is all I can do.

1560 is still my station of choice during AM drive, but I know what these other guys are talking about. J&L have seemed a bit sloppy/unfocused over the past 6 months or so. The day after the Astros open the season, the guys are in a deep conversation about the NFL. I still really like the show and will continue to listen, but it might be time for J&L and the crew to tighten it up a bit and remember what made them the best morning show in Houston.
