KGRP 100.9 Santa Rosa

Many years ago I would catch KGRP in Calistoga (serving Santa Rosa) online. It was doing Lite Rock then, but I understand it had been a Classic Hits prior to that and maybe Country before that. I was told the station's studio was in a railroad car (or caboose). From what I can figure, they sold in 2001 for about 3.5 million.

I'd like to know more about the history of the station. All I have ever heard is they never did too well financially, never really finding their 'place' in the market.

And assorted details will satisfy my curious mind.

I bet it was cheap to run KGRP. In understand the tower was really short and the power was almost nothing thanks to a their HAAT being so great.

KGRP became Regional Mexican KXTS (Exitos 100.9) sometime in late 2001 after Sinclair purchased the station. In 2008 the Spanish-language format went to 98.7, and a variation of the current CHR format moved to 100.9 as KSXY (Y 100.9).

It still broadcasts out of a railroad cart in Santa Rosa. Pretty interesting broadcast facility that you should visit if you get a chance. They are located on Standish Avenue off Todd Road, just a few blocks from the 101 in Santa Rosa.
