KGTV (KOGO's media partner) on the sales block

McGraw-Hill selling all the radio w/picture stations, including Channel 10. They are a "media partner" with KOGO.

And they were owned by the same company until 1972 when McGraw Hill bought the then-KOGO TV by itself, and the Disney familiy's Retlaw bought AM 600.

You gotta figure that after 40 years of ownership, they should make a profit when they sell it....

Wild shot: CBS.

Keep dreaming. None of the networks are in buying mode. And if CBS were buying, it would presumably want the entire McGraw-Hill group...but it can't buy KMGH in Denver, where it already owns much higher-rated KCNC. Nor would CBS want to disrupt a very good affiliate relationship with top-rated WISH in Indianapolis just to move to fourth-place WRTV as an O&O. And then there's Bakersfield...

I dont see CBS buying KGTV with the high debt load that they already have. Nor would they sour a 62 year old affiliation agreement with KFMB-TV. Disney would be more likely, but who knows maybe a Nexstar, Hurst, or a Belo might try to buy KGTV or the rest of the group??

Sad Clear Channel cant get back into tv and make it KOGO-TV again!

In the words of Ed McMahon, "You are correct sir"!!

But it will be interesting to see, who in the this bad economy can afford to buy those stations?? Or specifically KGTV. As I recall CBS owns 2 tv stations in LA so why can't Midwest or McKinnon buy a second station and put it with a dummy company?

I hope McKinnon doesn't buy it. KUSI still looks like a small town TV station in market #211 and I worry they would turn KGTV into the same.

Great KUSI went HD and all, but it doesn't really do much if their set and lighting still looks like it's from the 80's.

McKinnon should have some money he sold his Beaumont station (KBMT) and his Corpus station (KIII), and made some good money.

I dont believe so I think McKinnon has owned it for many years KIII was sold to London Broadcasting last year (late last year)

You aren't kidding! KUSI is UNWATCHABLE and has become even more so in the past six months for some reason. McKinnon dumped their other stations so they can make KUSI a regional "superstation." They now have digital translators to hit Riverside/Palm Springs and just won a bidding war to get a translator station in Santa Barbara.

McKinnon Broadcasting is famous for their very low wages and their cheap ass masking tape/duct tape approach to running their station.

You are referring to a duopoly situation. Duopolys can only happen when the buying station is not in the top 4 of overall ratings in a market. KFMB would not be eligible. What could happen is the Bay City TV/Entravision who programs XETV (CW) and XHDTV (My Network) could perhaps start programming and run KGTV.

In Los Angeles KCBS (former KNXT) is a top 4 rated tv station is co-owned with KCAL (former KHJ-TV). And to make matters worse the group owns radio stations too. So why cant they be bought by someone like Midwest?

The rule is that you can't have two stations in a duopoly that are both in the top 4. KFMB/KGTV wouldn't be permissible as a duopoly, nor would KNSD/KGTV. I'm not quite sure how Mexican-licensed stations play into this, so I'm not sure whether it's XETV/KGTV or KSWB/KGTV that would be the other impermissible duopoly. KUSI/KGTV would be allowable.

McKinnon does have another station in Texas that is an affiliate of ABC, but is McKinnon in buying mode?

What would a reasonable price be for the station? And if the McGraw-Hill chain still exists, is it being sold as a whole, or parceled off?

Talk is that the Denver station will go with San Diego, then a small broadcaster might buy the Bakersfield station.
