KGVY Translator

KGVY 1080 (and kgvy1080.com) is now also broadcasting on translator K264BB
100.7 Green Valley. From what I can tell, K264BB used to rebroadcast KNOG
91.1 Nogales, but has been silent for a while.

Guess that torches K-Slacks (KSLX-FM Scottsdale) reception in at least some of
the Tucson metro. Is Gumpdusky aware, and do they care?

On a related KGVY 1080 (and kgvy1080.com) note--have they jettisoned yet
another morning guy? A new voice replaced Andy Taylor some months back,
but the website now shows only the midday and PM drive jocks.
 
Andy Taylor is STILL doing morning so on KGVY......website must be out of date. Wow....who in Green Valley would miss get the Led Out at 7PM.....anyway??? ???
 
In most parts of Tucson this translator is worthless and its only effect is to interfere with one of the better stations in Phoenix. KGVY could have found a better frequency without half trying. 100.7 shouldn't be allowed. It's a nice example of a tiny island of service in the middle of an ocean of interference. Far more loss than gain to the listening public.
 
I'm not sure what happens to the East of I-10 and the I-19 Interchange but it seems the signal drops out at around Papago Road (Near the Casino) and then fights for ground up until the interchange. Don't even think its an issue for Tucson proper but South Tucson may feel some of the pinch
 
I've heard KGVY-FM a couple times just north of Oracle and River as I ws driving down the hill on Oracle with the big open view to the south. However, the signal was not what I would call listenable. Between Oracle/River and the I-10/I-19 interchange both KGVY and KSLX were interchangeably just barely above the noise. Once I got on I-19 southbound, KGVY became dominate in the Ajo-Irvington area but KSLX took over just south of Valencia almost all the way to Papago Road. South of Papoago Road it was solid KGVY.

Looks like KGVY-FM is running 35 watts:

What you're likely hearing in the NW metro is KSLX 100.7 Scottsdale, from its
class C 100-gallon (ERP) stick on South Mountain in Phoenix.
 
Yeah, I was surprised to hear it thursday night at Oracle and Ina - it was GVY no doubt but once I got the vehicle moving, it shuttered back to KLSX

Interesting, OldiesFan... For many years I was under the impression that KSLX was phonetically pronounced: Kiss-Licks. :D

While driving around Green Valley/Sahuarita listening to KGVY on 100.7 loud and clear, my car radio's RDS displays the call letters KSLX even though there is no audible sign of KSLX. How does that happen?
 
Your radio might be "remembering" the last RDS signal it got on that frequency. That happens from time to time in my wife's car. Usually only for a moment, then it goes away.
