KGY FM going to a C2?

I noticed today on Radio Locator that KGY-FM has a CP for a C2 from what looks like their same site at 11kw... I wonder how well this will help clear up the signal. I love the classic country, but although it seems you can get the station all over the south sound (even outside their coverage map), the scratchiness and multipath just never seems to go away... even around Olympia.

I do like the idea that they are doing *something* about it!

When I lived in Fremont in the early '90s, I could get both KGY-FM and CKKS (97 Kiss FM, now 96.9 JACK FM) out of Vancouver clearly with just a tilt of one dipole of a set of TV rabbit ears.

KGY-FM was running the lame ABC Classic Rock format at that time, which was pretty tedious to listen to. But then again, CKKS was Celine Dion, 24 Hours.

I assume KGY-FM is still on the (country) bird, right? Someone told me they went locally automated (which I'd rather hear than a crummy satellite network anyday.) But I haven't had a chance to head down that way lately....

I'm just saddened about the possibility that KGY might have to move. Couldn't the port incorporate the building the station is in and still develop the site? I mean the building isn't even on land. It's on stilts on the harbor. I think that it would be a curb appeal for any development in the area to have the oldest and best Olympia radio building as part of the new development. Any architect worth their salt could design that site with the current KGY building still in place.

I know so many people who became interested in radio because they walked by a studio where they could see the talent. In my case, it was a DJ at the Disneyland Hotel that got my interest in between my puking episodes on the teacups. In between I did my share of presentation puking, and now just toss cookies as a reaction to what has happened!

But it would absolutely be a statement that KGY is a community treasure to embrace it in the waterfront design. Right now it's next to an Anthony's theme restaurant, and would be cool if people could peek in a window as they leave the dinner and head back to the car. I hope smarter strategy prevails in this case.
