KHB

Picked up 620 on the way down 79 this evening all the way from around 422 to the North Hills. That signal could definitely be competitive if Stevens & co. wanted to play on a bigger stage.

Who was the jock on the air? Went by Michael J Daniels, really solid old-style Top 40 delivery, talked up intros even as long as "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" Is he a Westmoreland County local or is he someone we might have known by another name?

Michael J. has been around the area for years having done mornings at 1450 WDAD in Indiana, as well as 97 KYN in St. Mary's, WESA and other stations.

620 is a great signal. I agree that it could be competitive - although we have to power down at night as so many AM stations do. The station is doing too well, financially speaking, with alternative/health talk programming to consider a format change at the present time.

The hour I listened to last night was better than 3WS. Good work, Clarke.

Are you guys still thinking about moving that FM in from Waynesburg?

Credit, again, has to go to Michael J. Daniels, who schedules the music these days (although I've dubbed much of the music, and all of us have tweaked it over the months/years).

The FM is definitely moving in, and was on the air with equipment tests from its new transmitter site over the past weekend.

yes, the music programming on KHB is the best in town since Captain Showbiz flew the coop years ago.

Thanks for the kind words about 620 KHB. Listen this Saturday at 6 PM as I count down the biggest songs from July 25, 1972.

I get to play Wayne Newton's one big Top 40 hit.

You give short shrift to "Danke Schoen?" Ferris Bueller would be disappointed.

I was thinking "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast".

Right. That's what he was referring to. I'm saying that Newton had more than one big Top 40 hit. "Danke Schoen" got to No. 13, stuck around for a long time and is also the song he's probably best know for.

I also recall that he was mistaken for a German girl when the song first started getting airplay.

By all means, credit to "Danke Schoen" where it is due. KHB doesn't play that one; in fact, I suspect WJAS doesn't play it either. :)

I heard the ZZ Top version on DVE or The X. Can't remember

Aww, come on, PT. You're giving them short shrift. A turd that comes out of my cat's butt is better than 3WS these days.

I agree that this station would blow several of the FM clones out of the water.
