KHCB

Will never happen.........no NCE freqs for them to move to and they will NEVER give up a Class C Houston freq.......unless they could BUY a NCE station then move out of the commercial band.....(Liberman wanted to approach them 4 years ago....they got a flat "NOT INTERESTED")

...and probably never will be. 105.7 is one place on the dial that will be unchanged for many more years to come.

... or how about changing formats. The Music they're playing is so tired. I hope they could switch it to CCM. Or sell it to Brother Joel from Lakewood.

There is one non-comm that comes to mind in Houston. With the problems that Texas Southern is currently facing, selling 90.9 might be an avenue that the newly appointed Regents would look into. Now, that's not to say that KHCB would be even remotely interested in the signal as it's a far inferior signal to what KHCB currently has, but an option to go to an NCE frequency nonetheless.

TSU better not sell 90.9. That is the station I listen to the most, when listening to a local FM music station, especially on Friday's when they have the Classic Soul Music. I keep it on just about all day.

I also listen to 90.9 on firday nights when they play classic rap hiphop they better not sell it. 90.9 might have the best range & sound for any non commerical station in Houston

Or..I wounder if KTRU would be interested in selling.

Old Chicago

Rice selling KTRU? I mean, yeah it's a pretty good signal at 50kw from near Kingwood, but what kind of price would have to be presented to garner Rice's interest?

If you are talking about signal coverage, KTSU is rather modest. It is treed in by KAMU in College Station, so a frequency move by one or the other would be needed for an upgrade.

KUHF is the undisputed King for non-comm signal coverage in Houston.

I remember them in the early 80's having an anti-CCM preacher on the air. With that mentality (or lack thereof), they will never play CCM. Perhaps after 25 years, that anti-CCM mentality is dying off (I sure hope so). I remember being verbally and spiritually assaulted by Bill Gothard ZOMBIES after he gave a seminar in Houston. I had dared to suggest that CCM is OK. I personally maintain a web site that destroys ALL of the intellectual and scriptural arguments against CCM. It would be great if they went to a hot-AC or CHR format - perhaps running WAY-FM. Frankly - a Hot-AC or CHR station down there would beat up on KSBJ - taking the lion's share of their younger more affluent demographic.

This is quite true, with KPFT as a close second. Since KPFT recently upgraded their signal, it stretches over quite a large chunk of real estate now.
