KHCH Huntsville

Per the KHCB website, KHCH Huntsville started using 1410kHz today, Thursday 10/12, switching from 1400kHz. This is part of the plan to move KHCB 1400kHz Galveston to League City and go directional fulltime over Houston and Galveston.

KHCH will operate with 250 watts daytime and 87 watts nighttime non-directional 24/7, relaying most of KHCB-FM 105.7 Houston's programming.

When KHCB 1400 League City is built out it will be the only Class C station in the country that is directional nighttime over a city, actually in this case two cities.

Mike, do you know any infomation about KMAT? It seems before they had a CP to raise the tower to 486' and 38kw, now it says they want to downgrade it to 456' at 38.5 kw. right now they got the tower at 407' I'm looking at radio-info's records, I dont really know how accurate they really are on things, but I love their coverage maps. The last time I saw that tower they had a burned out light, I dont know if they fixed that or not.

I'm sorry I had the info to answer this days ago and forgot to reply. The only CP that KMAT has at this time is the one for 38.5kW at 138.5m [454.4'] as a C2 on 105.1 at 28-26-17N 096-26-55W which gives them crap.

Radio-Info's records are very good and kept up to date. If something is missing or or has changed a note to them will get it corrected right away if it checks out. R-I's maps are another thing. I have yet to have an AM station map match up with the signal. The FM is unrealistic in todays world of crammed in signals. The 60-50-40dbu, while good for usuable signals on the open road on a clear frequency, try and find that today. They should use 70-60-50dbu for a more accurate account. AM coverage can change from day to day so I don't have an answer there. I also find the AM maps interesting to look at, I'm surprised how many times a station has a different pattern than I would have guessed.

Er, I know both you guys are really talking about the maps at R-L, "Radio-Locator.com," right? ;D

Anyway, jras, about the KMAT CP, it looks to me like they had trouble locking into the tower site they had proposed and had find another site a few miles away. Hence they filed an amended application with a slight reduction in height at the alternate site, in order to come up with a coverage area that fit their previous calculations. Mike's right, of course; the coverage will still suck.

jd, you are correct I meant Radio-Locator. I guess I shouldn't start so early in the day with anything but beer.

Thanks for the correction.

I have had bad things happen if I start with a beer.
:)

I don't know. Back in 1973 at 1270 KIOX, I went 3 days without food. The paychecks were bouncing. All I had was a case of Bud in the fridge. I spread it out over that time period. When Friday came, I bought some hamburger meat and made a huge hamburger. Nothing wrong with a beer, especially when there is nothing else.
