KHHA 102.9 The Blast, playing old school Hip Hop and R&B, launched today at noon.
http://www.KeepingHipHopAlive.com

This is an Internet Only station - I think it's being run out of San Antonio. Seems very promising. An audio stream for your players is located at:
http://s6.voscast.com:8558/;stream0.841526037547737.mp3
(Note: Just clicking the streaming link doesn't seem to work for me in Firefox, shows a random page of code. Copy and paste it into your player and all should be fine.)

Props go to the guy running it - I think they're already picking up DJs.

That web player is cool, but many players like Winamp offer much more flexibility. To each their own I suppose.

As for the 102.9 frequency / KHHA call letters the station has, my only guess is that he wanted to make it seem as close to an FM as possible. It was originally going to be 102.7 but it had to be changed!
I do know that KHHA = Keeping Hip Hop Alive.

Thank you all.

To clarify....

This is my radio station. It has the call letter KHHA which stands for Keeping Hip Hop Alive... which also happens to be the URL for the station. I registered it with TuneIn radio app and should be on their list in a few days. That will make it easier to listen to if you do not want to listen from the web page. I named it 102.9 to make it easier to locate on such applications such as TuneIn and others.

I pride the radio station for NOT sounding like a traditional FM. Old school Hip Hop and R&B. A format that is on the rise on an entity (online radio stations) that is clearly making a growing impact on the industry. New vehicles already have the ability to listen into online stations and a year from now, every single car off the assembly line will also have the same ability. So the time to do this would be now. In the very near future, stations such as KHHA and others are going to revolutionize the industry because they know no bounds as far as range is concerned. KHHA can be heard literally aroundthe entire planet. With more and more growing access to such stations thanks to computers, tablets, and smartphones, stations that are exclusively online are going to change everything.

This is not a webcast, this is a radio station that will run 24/7.

Thanks guys.

Now I may be a tad pedantic but if this is only available via the internet, then it is a 'webcast' because the definition of a webcast is "A webcast is a media presentation distributed over the Internet using streaming media technology to distribute a single content source to many simultaneous listeners/viewers. A webcast may either be distributed live or on demand. Essentially, webcasting is “broadcasting” over the Internet."

Now it may be a 'radio station' that broadcasts strictly over the net, but it is a webcast.

I can certainly see how an internet station blurs the lines of being on topic on a radio forum, but I also see some merit of mention so long as the target of the station is local. Thanks to mobile streaming, people are able to stream from work, home, in the car, and anywhere you can pick up a strong enough signal. The medium the audio is transmitted may be completely different, but the end product sounds largely the same to the average listener.

Hmmmm... technically, Hank is correct. But Anthony made an excellent point.

As a webcaster, you may not qualify to be listed as a local radio station on Tuned In unless you are heavy in local content:

"Please note that the Local Radio feature only lists terrestrial stations that broadcast in a local area, and internet radio stations that primarily stream local or community content for that area. If you believe that your content is primarily local (i.e. you only play local artists or cover local news or politics), please let us know by emailing [email protected]."

Playing old school hip hop does not appear on the surface to be primarily local. Note it says "you only play local artists."

I agree with Fred; being and broadcasting from San Antonio isn't enough to be considered local on a global medium. Perhaps some tweaking may be required like adding and featuring local hip hop from San Antonio. There's an abundance of local artists, so I don't see that being too difficult. And as far as local news goes, I think the station qualifies as local if it becomes heavily involved in promoting local events, concerts, etc..

I've added KHHA to the Tapin Radio database for those of you who use that program. It'll take up to a week for The Blast to be added, though. www.tapinradio.com for those of you who are interested.

As for TuneIn, it might be important to show your station in the local area, but adding the "102.9" just seems to confuse some people. I've seen people on The Blast's Facebook page try and tune into 102.9 in SA with an FM radio and fail. You may not be able to show up in the local area, but the important thing is getting it listed, which is easy. I submitted a part-time Internet station for a friend (JTLX) with no problems at all. Just fill out the info and that's it.

Hi all!
Just a quick update on the current status of KHHA.
I noticed a couple weeks ago that the site and Facebook / Twitter pages for KHHA haven't been updated since Sept. I asked Dominique, he apparently sold the station to a friend of his a while back but the new owners seem to have forgotten about it (at least that's what it seems like).
As of now The Blast runs automated old school hip-hop and r&b in mono. Very few liners that I've heard and also no commercials, so it's a good station to jam out to at a old-school party. Not gonna lie.

Enjoy it until they rip it down, I guess.

And they did rip it down as of earlier. I should have not said anything... Oh well.

Pandora 1 is very nice, by the way!

I guess since I'm not logged into or have a account with Tune in, I cant delete my favorites? I had this on my favorites but it never worked.

You should be able to delete favorites. If you have an account though, they'll sync across all your TuneIn connected products.

And KHHA's always worked for me until yesterday.

Is it off the air? I first tried it yesterday.

Sorry. That's what I said.

"And they did rip it down as of earlier."

But, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I meant that they took it off the air shortly after I posted and asked on this thread. I guess they saw the post and decided to pull the plug without saying goodbye.

The site's still up, but the stream's down, rendering The Blast useless. LOL.

From what I know, the station is going to be relaunched. Updated playlist, stream, imaging, everything. Do not know when. Just so you know.
