KHHK Goes HD; New HD2 repeater "Big 106.1"

I fired up my Zune HD (Yes, all 5 of us Zune owners are still going strong), and much to my surprise, I tuned to KHHK and see it begin to lock an HD signal. Turns out this was rather new, a few days ago, Ingstad, owner of the cluster KHHK is in, invested in HD for the station, along with some repeaters.

One of those repeaters is on 106.1 and has been occupied for quite some time now. It is now a repeater of KHHK's HD2, a direct competitor it seems to KFFM. There's also an upcming station on 1056.9...KRSE or KXDD going HD too?

Still, I don't think I've heard of anyone out here explicitly buying an HD Radio, or even knowing what it is. Only reason I have mine, is because I grew up on the "west side" where it's everywhere.

Can't complain too much though. Always nice to have more options to tune to.

Nice! If you hear anything else, let us know!

Hopefully there are some drivers with HD radio who will get some use out of it. The terrain is a bit more forgiving, perhaps that will help as well.

106.1 is Big 106.1 Adult Top 40. It's KFFM without the hard rap. Not a listener. If it was REAL sounding soft rock, yes I would. Was shocked to channel surf and find "Sunny Came Home" Shawn Colvin being played.
106.9 is ESPN Deportes, also repeated on 980. Yes Yakima, NO classic country for YOU! I knew a lot of people who enjoyed classic country on 980 The Tractor.
104.5 is Fox Sports, and 1390 KBBO has ceased operations. All are repeated via KHHK-HD2/3/4.

1390 was sports for a bit before it went kaput, right? I recall it flipping from talk (bye FTL), and repeating KHHK-HD3 for a bit.

I have a feeling if KHHK and its HD2 are a hit, KXDD will carry classic on its HD2 if it gets one. Still waiting for KATS to go HD and play some alternative. Yeah, yeah KNWY has that station from YVTech...but I want a KNDD out here. :)

It will probably be hard to pull much of a classic hits audience away from KARY 100.9.

Ingstad did the the same thing here in Fargo as well it's BIG 98.7 Here
it's Basically Y94 Minus the Hip-Hop

I've had HD on KSWW for maybe a year now, but the first time I actually listened to our HD-2,3,4 was heading out of town in a borrowed vehicle a few weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprise at how far I carried the HD with only -20 injection. Are auto HD receivers getting better? All our HD formats are also on FM translators, but the HD held longer than the translators.

Despite what the naysayers allege, I am finding more and more consumers with HD radios in their car, which is primary for terrestrial radio.
