KHHL - BMP needs to sale it

I wish BMP would sale KHHL, what is the point even having it on? It is Silent half the time, and if it is playing it is braking up, distorted. They either need to sale it or get it working or make it Silent. No one must even listen to it now if it's been Silent for this long. (broadcasting with no audio)

Who would want to buy a station like that? My only guess would be a non profit.

Second, they could be having problems with their tower. Either that, or they are planning to simulcast KTSA on it and flip off the stereo pilot. After all KSAH now has FM service. The only stations that BMP owns that doesn't have FM service of any kind in San Antonio are KTSA, and KZDC. I would assume KTSA would simulcast on FM 103.1

KHHL has never broadcasted stereo as far as I can remember. And aren't they breaking rules broadcasting no audio?

In my oppinion, BMP should buy the illegal Radio Ola translator on 93.7, and simulcast KHHL. Then perhaps they'll get KHHL at least listenable in SA.

When 103.1 first came on the air, they were playing "Jammin oldies" type format, and was broadcasting in stereo. It sounded good when they were playing that. Once BMP took over it went down hill from there.

I've heard programming on it from time-to-time, though I live close to St. Louis and don't get to that area very often. Three years ago, I heard it broadcasting "La Lupe," which was BMP's answer to Univision's Recuerdo. I heard it when I was down there 18 months ago, too, but I don't remember exactly what the programming on it was. It seems like it was spoken word, but I don't remember. I believe, given signal contours, that its true "main studio" isn't the location of the Border Media stations in San Antonio. I have to wonder if they even know they're not getting a signal there. They could easily be monitoring the program channel instead of the air signal in the on-air studio because the signal's pretty bad in most of San Antonio proper. Of course, they should be taking their STL readings at least once-a-day, and that would tell them if there's an issue actually getting their programming to the transmitter.

The now defunct KTXX 103.1 played La Lupe 2005-06, then switched to La Voz a Spanish talk format 06-09. 2009 the year BMP switched call letters from KHHL 98.9 Austin > 103.1 San Antonio KTXX > 104.9 Austin KXBT 104.9 > 98.9 Austin. In 2005 as a stunt, Jammin Oldies was heard on 103.1 the signal would faintly come in on the road from I-10 and FM 1104 Kingsbury (the new rest stop was being constructed at that time) when traveling from San Antonio into Houston. The signal would fade out in Waelder on a Walkman radio (I traveled Greyhound a lot back then.) They were owned by BMP at the time as they would play the same mixture of songs as then Jammin 94.1. By the way the orignal KTXX was out of Devine this one is in Karnes City.

I highly doubt it, two reasons the first one being 103.1 COL is Karnes City, 93.7 is Hollywood Park, second BMP owns too many stations to do that. They would have to sell a FM station. Unless 93.7 is a non translator running a simulcast (i.e. KTJM 98.5 Port Arthur and KJOJ 103.3 Freeport)

If anything they should simulcast KZDC maybe it will put the hurt on the ticket.

Which could attract Austin listeners of the Zone a sports station owned by Clear Channel that commute to San Antonio. Plus the Zone is also on 103.1

It is BMP so it is possible. Kind of like their KTXX The Horn 104.9 and now on AM.

But if they do, Clear Channel will bounce back simulcasting AM 760 on 92.5 and dropping the Patriot.

At any rate, they really need to do something, this station has suffered enough...

An addition to Wildav's 103.1 format history: before La Lupe, KTXX was an Air America affiliate.

In 2005 I was the engineer & defacto PD, much to the amusement of my friends at other conservative radio outlets, and much to my dismay at the 70+ mile drive from studios to the tower.

AA employed an elegantly-simple format: start the day with the morning show repeating "Bush bad. Bush bad. Bush bad..." Change hosts every 4-5 hours, and repeat the message with little variance, and even less humor.

The sad part is the the hosts were actually strong talents on their own.

One other point regarding 103.1's signal: at the same time we were running "All Bush=bad, all the time", work was being done on the master antenna at the Tower of the Americas. Meaning that 102.7 was operating from its old antenna on one of the KTSA towers. Great for them, bad for KTXX, as the combination of of 102.7 MHz and 0.55 Mhz put a nice fat spur on 103.25 right across north SA.

I forget about the failed Air America network on 103.1 After the Jammin oldies stunt on 103.1 which was short lasted Air America debuted around March of 2005. My friend listened to it when he moved to San Antonio in April.

Austin also aired Air America on AM radio.

If they would just keep this station off the air then I could get Sports on 103.1 KVET-AM.

Maybe they could actually put something good on 103.1. Like active rock (KISS is more classic).

Good luck jras, the winning numbers are pinned up on my corkboard. :p

They are NOT!

It would be cool to win the lottery. Bet none of you did though. And we saved a few dollars not buying tickets.
