Can someone tell me how KHHT all of a sudden jumped up to the top of the ratings?

It didn't jump to the top. In the published 12+ they moved to 5th, but the last 5 books have been 3.2, 3.0, 3.3, 3.3 and 3.5 in 12+... so they are at the high end of their range.

The real story is KYSR beating or tying KROQ in the major demos (according to a one-sheet that they are alredy circulating).

And if you look at the cluster, those people at the evil empire of Clear Channel aren't as bad and dumb as lots of people say they are.

So therefore, What? As you say often on these boards David, "Nothing more than wobble!"

The current month is the highest 12+ they have had... and there is a wobbly upward tendency. It looks like the station is going to stay at a level a couple of tenths of a point higher. Most of the month to month changes are within the margin of error of the study itself, so not significant unless either the low end rises or the high end declines.

Honestly I don't see anything wrong with Clear Channel. I mean yes, I do get annoyed when they release jocks and add syndicated programs on their stations, but they do have good stations IMO.

It seems to me that KHHT is doing two things differently over the last few months. First, they are focusing more on Hispanics, becoming more "rhythmic" than "urban" in their music. I wonder what their audience ethnic breakout is. Second, they are focusing on more familiar oldies and recurrents rather than new music. Both strategies seem to be gradually working.

Yes, they acquired good stations. But they've really hurt a lot of them. Just because they're the biggest, doesn't mean they know what they're doing all the time. Depends on who's running them. For KHHT that's KIIS's John Ivy. But I'm sure he gets a lot of input from CC corporate.
