I have a feeling a Rythmic AC station is under works, but I maw be wrong. The logo is pink and blue. Do these colors ring up a "femenist" smell to anyone?

Maybe a little, but it is not conclusive and I think there is much more evidence against Rhythmic AC from the other markets where CBS has tried it.

I didn't see the Flash on the CBS website before they took it down, but R&R posted the logo and my first thought was that it looked like Candy 95 from College Station. See for yourself: http://www.candy95.com/home/

Candy is very much a Mainstream CHR. Considering Houston's demographics and the name, I think Hot will lean more Rhythmic.

I've got to hand it to Jeff. I was skeptical, but he was right on the money.

Good job on the scoop.

What a coincidence, that was also the first thing that popped into my head, but then I later realized that the sole name of "Candy" brings out those colors. I still feel like a Rythmic AC is in the oven.

Yeah, but it sure would be nice if they'd quit running "Smooth Jazz 95.7 The Wave" across the screen.

Texas Tuner
They just took it down. It now says "Radio History Thursday at 3PM". This is off the top of my head, so some of the context may be wrong.

Was Smooth Jazz KHJZ a Broadcast Architecture affiliate? Did they have DJ's Ramsey Lewis, Dave Koz, Maria Lopez, Billy Raven, Paul Hardcatle, Norman Brown, Brian Culbertson?

No. A note to Greg Morgan, Donna McKenzie, Donna Franklin and Keith Myles; I enjoyed the time we all spent together. My best to all of you. We had a good run.

Is this change related to CC's sell of KLOL ???
Is this a serious question? KLOL is a Latin Pop format and this has absolutely nothing (and I mean nothing) to do with Rythmic AC/CHR/Top 40 and the end of Smooth Jazz.

Well, While I have this post open already, any guesses if Smooth Jazz will appear in 95.7 HD-2? It's kinda hard to predict since Both KHJZ and KILT don't have a second stream.

You can bet on it NOT being a Rhythmic AC.

Looks like CHRles could be right. NOT a Rhythmic AC. Just AC?

There playing some decent dance house music plz do not stop & switch to something super lame :)

Too bad a lot of what they are playing right now is bad house mixes of old songs and newer songs that have no business being mixed into house songs.
If they to stick with rhythmic/dance, it could be a case of history repeating.
It was about 11 years and half a month ago when a smooth jazz station on 98.5 flipped to a rhythmic/dance format.
I just hope that a year from now we don't have a Barbie Girl equivalent song that some dj decides to play on repeat until everyone gets sick of it.
Does anyone else remember that?

Heh, good one Jimmy ;D
I know that in the late 80s Houston was considered the Euro-Dance capital of America. Power 104 and 93Q, based on the old playlists I'm looking at right now, were great youth leaning stations. They played and broke a lot of new music, were Dance friendly, and just musically adventurous in general with Modern Rock, Rap, Dance, and all the big Pop hits. By the end of the 80s a Top 40/Dance station was launched - Energy 96, but within a year it became Mix 96.5. When 97.9 The Box launched they did play some Dance titles, though by and large it was a street leaning or Churban sounding Top 40/Rhythm station.
98.5 Kiss/103.3 Kiss again was on two signals, had a huge coverage area, but also reception problems in some of Houston's most heavily worked at and populated areas. It was Top 40/Dance for a while, then they tried their hands at CHR/Pop. They were no match though for 104 KRBE, which at the time had finished evolving back from a Modern leaning CHRto its heritage CHR/Pop sound.
Anyways, 95.7 is expected to debut as some type of CHR, not AC. I mean its right there on KHJZ's website - coming soon Hot 95.7, hot hits. I've never seen or heard of an AC station with a hot hits tagline. There is however room for another AC in the market as KODA is nothing short of a ratings juggernaut.

Fortunately, I don't remember becuase I didn't live in Houston at the time, but the mixes are pretty awful. That, of course, didn't keep me from hearing those horrid 90s dance songs. It just sucks that Houston lost it's smooth. But I've already came up with the conculsion that Houston radio is pretty rancid. Good thing I got my iPod dock working again. :)

Since my bedtime is 6pm, just now learning the news at 2:45am.

Not a surprise, since SJ has been dropping like flies around the country lately. Probably another preset gone from my car radio.

I will miss The Wave, even though I had grown tired of 80% of its playlist. Really not much else I'm interested in musically on Houston FM, other than KUHF and Jack FM. I'm either not in the target demo of the other guys, or am tired of the music they play. Jack has gotten much of my listening time due to the wide playlist, and I'm okay with the occasional clunker there.

Has 95.7 flipped the HD2 to SJ? That's what CBS did in DFW after KOAI got the axe.
