KHJZ flipping to "Hot Hits" Hot 95.7

I heard it in the car, briefly about the same time, this morning. No surprise for me too; I felt it a year ago (Jan 2007) when I left The Wave. As The Wave becomes history, so will the preset on my car radio. I certainly did not like what was playing therefore, I will change it to KUHF when I leave here later this afternoon.

Just another reason to keep the radio on XM & Sirius. Why should I be surprised though?! Smooth Jazz stations are dropping about as fast as oil is rising. Soon, it will be gone from every market, except on HD & Satellite Radio.

"Wave" Goodbye to Smooth Jazz. :(

Is this change related to CC's sell of KLOL ???
Is this a serious question? KLOL is a Latin Pop format and this has absolutely nothing (and I mean nothing) to do with Rythmic AC/CHR/Top 40 and the end of Smooth Jazz.

Well, While I have this post open already, any guesses if Smooth Jazz will appear in 95.7 HD-2? It's kinda hard to predict since Both KHJZ and KILT don't have a second stream.
Ah...but what if he's right?!? Look how quiet it has been on the divesture of KLOL in the last week or so. CBS is very much in the sweepstakes for KLOL and Buzz/Mix and could be preparing and strengthening the other parts of the cluster......you never know.

From the website...
Thank you for your dedication and loyalty to Smooth Jazz 95.7, The Wave. We have made a lot of friends and memories in the last 5 and 1/2 years that we will treasure and hope you do too. You can still listen to the Smooth Jazz you love on The Wave by clicking on the "Listen Live" button on KHJZ.com. And coming in early May, the Wave’s Smooth Jazz format will also be broadcast on our HD2 Channel at 95.7 HD2. Just purchase an HD capable radio and you will be able to listen to your favorite Smooth Jazz artists for free as always!

KHJZ.com will continue to provide you with upcoming smooth jazz events associated with the streaming station and the HD2 channel.

Thank you again for listening to Houston's Smooth Jazz The Wave, now at KHJZ.com!

Looks like The Wave will live on in HD-2 like The Oasis here in DFW. Hopefully, you guys will get true 100% smooth jazz like The Oasis is now. Give it a listen... http://www.smoothjazz1075.com
You have to click on the right side of the page NOT the banner. For some reason the banner is going to KVIL. Bleh.

Yeah, but it sure would be nice if they'd quit running "Smooth Jazz 95.7 The Wave" across the screen.

Texas Tuner
They just took it down. It now says "Radio History Thursday at 3PM". This is off the top of my head, so some of the context may be wrong.

You're correct..it's been updated. Oh well...down it goes. I wonder if anyone at KTSU or KTRU could take advantage of this change.

Gee, we'll miss those great Smooth Jazz Phil Collins songs!

By the way, KRBE ranked #1 in Annual Household Income in both $75G+ and $50G+ in the recent Media Audit report.
KHJZ ranked 15th in $50G+ and didn't even show up in the Top 15 for $75G+.
Only 31.9% of Houston Adults make $75G+ and less than half of Houston Adults (48.7%) make $50G or more.

KRBE is ripe for an revenue attack.

I bet CBS is hoping to split the CHR demo and grab the younger Millennials demo.

The stale Rock and R&B are a big factor in the demise of KHJZ. Stuff I grew tired of listening to long ago.

I will miss "Sounds of Brazil" on Saturday nights. Nice, enjoyable, off the beaten path music on that show. The producers do, however stream it continuously on their own website.

KRBE is ripe for an revenue attack.

And the local Cumulus managers are ripe for a heart attack, although I would think they saw the possibility of this coming.

I bet CBS is hoping to split the CHR demo and grab the younger Millennials demo.

And if CBS winds up with the two CC spinoffs, it will be interesting to see how they fit into a bigger cluster. The Buzz could be a same-age male complement to female oriented Hot, or a tweaked Mix could provide some older age range among females. Would CBS save the Mega format to add Hispanic females for the sales staff? Or could they put "Fresh" on 101.1 and provide a Baby Boomer/GenX/GenY wall of women amongst Hot, Mix, and Fresh?

So you are telling me they are making moves even before finding out if they are buying CC's stations? Yeah Right! Since when has this guy been right? (hehehe JK)

We have seen Smooth Jazz fall everywhere recently. I think it has nothing do to with future moves. Dallas and Denver have been recent victims. I think we were bound to see this happen. Maybe choosing a Top 40/Rythmic station was a response, but the decision to kill Smooth Jazz wasn't. It was bound.

It was a nice run. I truly hate to see Smooth Jazz leave, but with one ending, another crappy beginning starts ;D

Mhhh, I feel that Party 93.3 may throw in the towel anytime soon after this?

Univision might wait to see what happens with Mega before making a decision. But, yes, the Party might soon be over. La Kalle 93.3 ??

Nah, Reggeaton failed in a full Mo. City stick. It ain't going to work in a rimshot station. Besides, La Kalle would just bite some of KAMA's ratings away.

I think they should have launched as CHR/Pop. Rhythmic hasn't worked here since "Power 104", but all attempts were on rimshots. It's nice to hear dance music on FM here in town again. Basically, this is almost like XM 20 on 20 where all songs are voted for and the top song is played at the top of the hour... but in rhythmic form.

I wonder if they are going to have Kidd Kraddick in the morning or does 96.5 cover it?
