KHMX debut ad 10/1990

I was looking around YouTube and found this commercial. It says it is rare. I barely remember this commercial. The static is what stood out in my mind all these years.

On the details he mentions Nationwide Communications. What happened to them? At the end you could see the logo, though not as clear. Can you make out any of the letters/numbers next to the logo? From retrospect it is kind of cheesy.

Nationwide went the way of so many other stations. Some of theri stations went to Clear Channel, some went to others, but somewhere along the way they have been folded under the Clear Channel umbrella. My old GM, Dave Van Stone was with Nationwide Communications here in Houston about that time. He is now with RadiOhio in Columbus, Ohio.

You'll notice the line " ...A lot of music without a lot of meaningless talk...." Which translates to: We have announcers read 'flip-cards' so we won't have to pay personalities higher salaries. That way we make you think you are getting more by hearing more music, when in fact, you are getting less entertainment. We're a jukebox which told you what you just heard and whats coming up.

In many cases, some stations didn't even bother to tell you what was played.

Nationwide Communications, a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance, looked around and decided to sell instead of buy when the stations' worth got a very large number. ALL, or almost all, of NC's stations were sold to Jacor Broadcasting (ran by Randy Michaels) in the late 90s. Jacor was eventually bought by Clear Channel.
