KHOU Harvey aftermath

Ever since the Allen Parkway studios were flooded that Sunday morning last month, the subchannels have been off the air the entire time. Looks like 11.2 and 11.3 came back live this evening, simulcasting 11.1 in SD as a test. Justice has been on 67.4 for the past couple of weeks and Bounce hasn't been seen in Houston the entire time. This is second-to-the-last step towards Houston's airwaves (actually, this channel) recovering after Harvey.

Around 3PM, there were color bars. One test pattern had "WFAA-TV 28" on it. Looks like the transmitter engineers kept restarting the transmitter like it was a Windows PC.

Tonight, 11.2 has rejoined Bounce and 11.3 has rejoined Justice. 67.4 is simulcasting Justice but probably will be removed soon since 11.3 is back. Houston's airwaves are back to normal after a month-and-a-half. Moving back to Allen Parkway is the next milestone for the station.

Looks like the station was able to salvage and recreate much of the flooded news set in the temporary Houston Public Media studios. The black-framed back vertical monitor array behind the anchor desk, 3x3 video wall, and the Microsoft Touchscreen is back. The only noticeable differences from the old building are the faux brick corners, and the old anchor desk is gone but the new anchor desk is still missing (and using something else for the desk).

Surprisingly, the new and improved temporary set debuted on, what is now a memorable, MLK Day.

KHOU finally moved to the new studio on Sunday! Apparently, today was the first full day at their new studio. This is a President's Day that will be always special in the Houston TV landscape.

Worst location is town if there is breaking news and a filed reporting crew needs to head to a scene at 5pm they will get to the scene 20 to 30 min after every other station gets their.

To be fair, they have easy access to I-69/US-59, I-610 and I-10 (and to a lesser extent BW-8). If a terrorist attack ever happens in The Galleria on Black Friday, they will be definitely be the first on the scene!

Still waiting for the guitar pick news desk to make a comeback!
