KHOU's coverage of the plane landing

I was able to catch KHOU's coverage of the crippled Continental Express plane's landing at IAH today via TXCN. I don't know how well the other Houston stations covered it (because I don't live in H-town), but I was very impressed with KHOU's coverage today. If there is anyone in Houston reading this, how did the other Houston TV stations fare during this event?

It's about how you would expect the coverage. KHOU & KTRK had the best, although KHOU was out in front. KTRK seemed to follow up on what KHOU was doing. KHOU put up a website graphic that was tracking the plane. KTRK put up that same graphic 30 minutes later. KPRC had its usual uninformed news anchors involved and seemed to get most everything wrong in terms of airport and air traffic lingo. KPRC's helicopter was also on the wrong side of the runway when the plane landed. KHOU, KTRK & KRIV helicopters cought the landing on the correct side to show the tire-less left side landing gear hitting the runway. KRIV's coverage was, as usual, misinformed and lacking the expert contributors KHOU and KTRK normally have.

WFAA ran live with the incident from 5:00 to 5:30 and 6:00 to 6:30. I think you could actually hear dejection in their voices when it was all over.

Hence the "good news doesn't sell" maxim of journalism. Channel 8 could have run music under (or over) with Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry."

KHOU and KPRC interrupted the evening news. KTRK decided to break into the evening news. KRIV got tired after 5 minutes and came back periodically until the big moment. If 11 and 2 were not affiliates but O&Os, would they have acted like KTRK and not interrupt the evening news?

Fox NewsChannel was using KTRK's coverage, with a very occasional feed from KRIV...Thanks to the Gym, I was able to watch 2, 11, 13 and Fox News Channel Simultaneously. 11 & 13 definitely beat 2, and I leaned towards 11's coverage.

I think I'm alone in this, but I've always been a fan of KPRC. Even if the reporting is sub-par, the imaging and anchors/reporters are better than the competitors, in my opinion.

I've been a Channel 2 News fan going back to the 70s - as a kid...Usually, I'll have 2 on at 10pm (if I'm home - I'm rarely home by 6...). Unfortunately, I think 2's coverage of the plane landing was below par.Jim
