KHOZ ad in Sunday Times paper

I was amused to see KHOZ's ad in Sunday's paper (believe it was the second or third time it's ran lately) with pictures of a sales staff that I suspect is almost completely unknown to the businesses of the area. (Marilyn excluded of course; everybody knows her but I haven't met anyone who actually likes her.) But I digress. I suppose the staff picture is one way to introduce yourself to the locals but to me it smells of desperation and is a none too subtle reminder that the place has been gutted.

I was even more amused at the placement of the ad; right next to the Time's Business Expo ad, where the graphic in the top right corner said "Live remotes with KBCN/KMACK and KCWD/KNWA!". Apparantly, KHOZ will not be participating in the Expo this year. Sources say they are doing one on their own. I'm sure it will be a rousing success!

> i guess this mean sthat khoz sees the newspaper as a better way of getting to meet the public than ctually going out and doing it...."khoz...we advertise in the paper...you should too!"

thats great...just great

Does seem a rather odd way of meeting clients. Guess they need to let folks see who won't be showing up in their buisness to sell radio. As I recall the ad mentioned they had been serving the area for over 50 years? I don't remember seeing any of those people around town in the past 50 years? Smart move on the papers part to take what little money they have though. Print media is great when used correctly to compliment your station. You learn how to use it sometime after the 50 years I guess.

I was browsing in one of the local (Harrison) music stores this week, and the owner said he had been doing biz with the hoz well, er, probably 50 years....even had a trade with them forever...says he hasn't seen nor heard from any of the new crew....bet they won't get anymore free records...:)>)

Is that not CRAZY. What on earth are those people thinking? Guess they aren't. Or perhaps they are. I suppose if you plan on feeding your programing from another town and eventually moving your operations under one roof in Missouri, you don't really need to contact anyone in the town your leaving. Watch your FCC filings. When the time is right, watch em fly out of town. They have to many troubles of their own right now to worry about a 50 plus year local advertiser. The place is a royal mess right now and will stay that way with the people currently on staff. But I assure you there is a grander plan at work here. People skills not required. Oh nevermind! I'll bet it's just a bunch of nasty rumors. Like the one that went around in early 2004 about someone buying the station from the Wheelers. We all knew that would never happen. Merry Christmas.
