KHPR installs a new repeater

KHPR is now on the air on the north shore of Oahu at 88.5 FM, transmitting from Mt. Ka'ala, the highest point on the island, 4000 feet above sea level. This replaces the old translator on 88.7, which was only 40 watts directional. The new operation runs 250 watts non-directional, and covers the northern half of Oahu, as well as most of Kaua'i, 70 miles distant.
The main KHPR signal is at 88.1 FM, transmitting from Wiliwilinui with 35 kilowatts.

I did hear the new signal at the airport yesterday. I'm guessing the move to 88.5 is so not to interfere with 88.9 KHJC.

Yes, and also to clear up the translator signal on Kaua'i. KHJC was also causing problems for KHPR listeners on the north shore of Oahu. The frequency shift and power increase really eliminated any mutual interference problems.
