Why would the average consumer be interested? They give the average piece of technology a try - if they are techie or trendy minded. It doesn't work, they return it and move on. With AM HD dropping at the least hint of interference, the car next to you tuned 10.4 to 11 MHz underneath an HD station causing it to lose lock, plane takeoffs and landings causing it to drop, and bad coverage under the best scenarios - the average consumer is going to say to himself, his family, and his friends - and probably on social media " this HD radio is cr@p don't waste your money." The ship has sailed, there was a window of opportunity around the time digital TV was adopted, but poor engineering in the first place - rushed introduction of a flawed system, lack of compelling content on HD-2, along with HD-2 going silent when the drop makes the system a pain in the posterior even to those of us who use it. I don't sing along with favorite songs, because HD-2 is going to drop and leave my awful voice by itself.
