KHPT - Jock Leaving

Hey Y'all,

First off let me say a BIG Congratulations and a tip o' the Colonel St. James hat to both these ladies. They are both extremely talented and very deserving of their new positions. Heather is gonna do very well at Fresh, and I've been a huge Pam fan for years now! Way to go, Babes!!!! I would also like to thank Tookie and Dave E. for saying that I am one of the Nicest Jocks in town. It's nice to hear that kind of sentiment after all these years, and I agree that Chuck Tiller definitely belongs on that list as well. Chuck, we need to write a book about Houston radio history. What you and I don't know, we can make up! Sound good? Finally with all that said, I would like to go on record here on radio-info.com, and announce that it is not possible for me to be the Father of Anna Nicole's baby. I've had a vasectomy. Thanks and God bless!!

Colonel St. James

Colonel.... Could it have been a test tube baby? Don't count yourself out of the millions yet.

If it was a test-tube baby you can be sure of one thing... it had a womb with a view... (rimshot and groans)

Dave E.

I heard Pam today. I thought she was just filling in. It was nice to hear her do more than just traffic. I enjoyed listening to her since she was the KTBZ. Glad shes back on the air.

hmmm..maybe that means a "real" rock format could be on the way.
or Cox plans on keeping the same boring format with "fresher' sounding jocks. ;D

Re: KHPT - The Point

The point needs to switch to Lite rock with less clutter. Sunny is ripe for the taking. They are so cluttered and all over musically. Yes I see a lite at the end of the point.

How about this monikar :Koze1069 Houstons best lite rock without all the commericals.
They could stick to true soft rock standards with a 1500 song rotation go all out baby.
They only need a morning show and a news guy and a afternoon drive guy run the rest with canned liners.
This format switch would certianlly hit Sunny Hard. I do not think the Sunny pm drive guy is in Houston he sure messes up names alot.

what do you think?

It's been so long since I listened to them, that I forgot what they sounded like and who was actually on-air?! I'm actually surprised that Zoe Bonet is still doing nights, and they haven't thrown her overboard for Delilah. I want to say that afternoon drive is a voicetrack job, maybe out of Portland?! I thought a read that somewhere. "Sunny" is ripe for the taking, so is Majic 102(.1). I'm actually surprised as much AC as I hear on KHJZ that they haven't cut into KODA's numbers much. I think KHPT could pretty much go in any of the directions discussed and have better success that they are having now with their stale "80's & More" format.

Pam has been doing traffic for a couple of months now. But..she was also pulling shifts on KIOL. I guess this means she's done with 103.7? They're gonna need to update the website. Her pic is still there.

I thought anybody could moonlight with traffic as long as they were careful not to sign either Traffic.com/CC's or Shadow/Metro's killer non-competes...?

First off, I really hate to see Heather leave. When I first listened to 106.9, she was the reason I listened. I also enjoyed the "80's" music they played. But when they changed the format, I stopped listening EXCEPT when Heather was on. In my opinion, they need to go back to the 80's only format.

Second, I'm glad to see them replacing Heather with Pam Kelly. Maybe she can uphold the same respect that Heather had. I enjoyed listening to her on 103.7. I also think that 103.7 needs to lose the classic rock format and go back to a hard rock format. At times, 103.7 sounds about the same as 106.9.

I really don't notice much of a difference in 106.9's playlist from when they were 80's only to now. Just some Matchbox 20 and Alanis thrown in here and there. For the most part it's still the tired old J. Geils, Pat Benitar, and Huey Lewis. And for pete's sake i think any PD that put's "Jukebox Hero" on a playlist needs to be shot. haha.

Also I never considered 103.7 hard rock. When they first started it was pretty much the Arrow and the Buzz combined now it's just the Arrow. I pretty much turn it off after Walton and Johnson.

I love Pam Kelly. While I was at Cumulus on Sunday afternoons, we shared some laughs together. It was a pleasure to work with her. She used to work with my ex-wife, Lacy Fortune at Shadow traffic. Lacy would take our son, Trey to work with her. So, in a way, Pam saw Trey grow up from a little boy, to becoming an adult. Pam has a great voice and knows how to use it.

Yes, I worked at Cumulus. I was doing board op work on FM Newschannel 97.5, while working for CBS on Smooth Jazz 95.7, The Wave and working for Salem on Newstalk 1070 KNTH. The coolest part about all of that was in 2005, my wife Mary and I went to CBS, Cumulus and Salem Christmas parties.

Walton & Johnson is the ONLY thing that 103.7 has going for them. I usually change the station after they go off for the day. And to think, there was a rumor at one time going around that they were being run off from 103.7.

Congratulations Heather. I worked with Heather on the Point from 2001-2004 and I'm so happy she landed a great gig in NYC. What a great voice, you didn't get to hear her real "personality" because she played by the rules of the format. That is talent, playing by the rules and keeping a gig for six years. Enjoy New York Heather, I am really thrilled for you. Hello to all my Houston radio friends. Hope everyone is doing great. I miss Yall, but love Cali.

I nearly fell off my chair reading that! I avoid W&J like the plague, and only listen to 103.7 when there is music on the station.

I guess it goes to show that you can't please everyone, no matter what you program. Perhaps that is why Ipods are so popular.
