Also, the FCC required reduced power on all HD transmissions dramatically limits the signal reach. As I understand it, the HD signals are supposed to be 1% of the analog. Therefore if KHTC's analog channel is putting out 90-thousand watts, their HD channel is supposed to only use 1% of that--900 watts. My understanding of all this may be wrong.
However, if my information is correct....it would appear this is an inherant issues with HD.

HD is 10% of the analog...not 1%. The digital at the 10% of analog ERP will have the approximately the same coverage in the hybrid digital (HD) mode....at that level the 50/50 range is about the same of analog, all other things being equal.
