KHTW 1400, Langtry, Texas

Radio Locator lists this 250 watt AM station with tower site in Langtry, Texas. I know the engineer on the application but haven't talked to him in years.

As I lived in Del Rio, I've been to Langtry many times. Bak then Langtry was about 30 people. Nearby town, Pumpville, is actually an old stop on the railroad. There is a Church and graveyard in Pumpville and 6 nearby ranch gates (ranches cover miles out in this area). Dryden has 12 people.

I'm really curious about this one. I scratch my head asking why. Maybe they will hit 100-125 people. Ground conductivity is lousy...it's desert. I think there are 4 businesses in the whole coverage area (Manta lists 29 but this includes ranches, churches, etc. that are not really businesses that would use radio).

Anybody know of this one...any background?

I failed to mention this is a CP.

My only thought is maybe there could be a connection with Pumpville Baptist Church but if that was the case, why not set the station at Pumpville on one of their member's ranches? That Church is pretty small...only a few families.

The FCC database lists it as 1,000 watts licensed to Better Life Ministries of Arvada (Denver), CO. Don't be surprised to see it file for a CP modification to move its tower southeast closer to Del Rio.

To quote Tim Cutforth from the 307b exhibit:

Assignment of this channel to Langtry will not preclude service to other nearby communities
since this frequency cannot meet allocation standards to be assigned to other communities.

Looks like a speculative application/CP that will probably not get built.
