KHUI Flips

KHUI 99.5 in Honolulu has flipped from DG Adult Standards to Christian KGU-FM and 760 AM "Teach and Talk" radio. The switch came Sunday three weeks after breaking away from DG and playing its own custom Christmas playlist, still under the KHUI call letters. http://www.khuiradio.com/

It's back to listening to DG on the KKJL stream from San Luis Obispo for me. Anyone know of good DG streaming affiliates out there?

Try WDEA-1370 Ellsworth, Maine www.am1370wdea.com

That means that in the commercial FM dial, Honolulu now has three religion stations: two Christian Contemporary outlets and now KGU-FM, runnng Salem's pay-for-play list of radio preachers.

Well, Honolulu still has Cox's 650 KRTR, which I believe follows the same Very Soft AC format found on 105.5 The Dove in Tampa and now Easy 93 in Miami. I don't think they audio stream or if they do, I haven't found it.

I believe soft music fans can still find Smooth Jazz on 101.1 KORL, unless they've changed recently.

Then there is also 940 KKNE which plays Hawaiian Standards. So if you're looking for a station that plays plenty of Don Ho and Israel Kamakawiwa'ole, you're in luck!

I looked up KRTR. "Delilah"? You've got to be kidding. People in Myrtle Beach, SC had to deal with that mess. Well, they didn't have to. The standards station had a lousy signal at night but it was there. Until Floyd. Hundreds of complaints. So you now the station that was doing easy listening during the day wasn't that great. And that's when Delilah's music was actually soft. It has turned uip the volume like the ACs too.

I listen to a station that plays Don Ho and Israel Kamakawiwa'ole. Nice.

I am referring to just "Tiny Bubbles" and "Over the Rainbow", though.

As I recall, KUMU had a format which was listed as "beautiful music/Hawaiian music". That would include steel guitar-based instrumentals, I assume. Hawaii needs that! I remember 25 years ago hearing Hawaiian steel guitar on an easy listening station where I live! How often, I don't know, but I heard it the one time.

You may be confusing WRTR-FM, which has a fairly standard AC format (I suppose it includes Delilah), with WRTR-AM, which has pretty much the same Very Soft AC format (Kenny Rogers, Carpenters, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Dionne Warwick, Beatles, etc.) that can be found on Easy 93 WFEZ Miami and 105.5 The Dove WDUV Tampa. In this case it's on AM at 650. They're all owned by Cox Broadcasting.

I got it from Wikipedia, but that doesn't mean they're not wrong. I'll look into it when I get time.

I looked at the web site. There are two photos of Delilah and I can clearly see "650 AM".
