KHVN

Any one have any ideas why KHVN is changing there city of license from Fort Worth to Bedford.

Because they're moving their tower and they have to?

And if they're moving their tower from cowtown to HEB, they're gaining anywhere from 10 (close side) to 30 (far side) miles on the other side of Dallas in coverage (assuming same basic pattern), right?

Let's say they have a 75 mile radius signal. I don't have exact figures, but if their tower is in downtown FW, 32.5 miles (75/2) probably puts their signal petering out by the time you hit downtown Dallas. The further east they can move the signal, the more east side of Dallas they're likely to cover, no?

Oh I did not know they were moving their stick. That is a good thing for the folks of Dallas, but not so good for Funky Town. I still hope they can get a good signal there. I pray that KHVN will not have to give up the 970 frequency. if they do then Put KHVN on 1630 and KKGM can go to 1600.

Moving the stick but powering down in power...possibly a ploy to keep 970 on the air by making it Bedford's first aural service and thus using that to argue to the Commission not to have to return the license while keeping the expanded band freq.....of course their nighttime signal from the new site may not fully cover FTW so this move would make sense anyway..under the original Expanded Band rules, they are supposed to return one license, but a lot of similar AMs (with Ex Band signals) are now trying to back out of that deal.

Looks like they are keeping their frequency. Moving to Bedford will definitely help with license issues.

Mortensen could be tired of the red ink of KHVN's programs NOT paying their bills, andpossibly is dressing it up for sale. Despite KHVN"s heritage it is bleeding, andholding back any possible growth at he other Mortensen's stations in DFW. KKGM is getting paid for their programs,so no worries there.

They want to use the same tower as KKGM, which is in Euless, and even with lower power it would improve coverage in the Dallas area. But no, they're not moving yet. The original application was filed as a major change in January '04 but it was later amended to qualify it as a minor change, even with the community of license change. Is it a ploy to bring Bedford its first local service as a way of keeping the license? It could work that way, providing the FCC approves the application.

Indeed it will. You know, this was actually something Warren Brooks wanted to do years ago. Either it's cash or corporate, this great station deserves better brakes than this. Glad 970 is still going to be home though.

Remember their jingle? Wouldn't sound right with "Heaven 16-hundred KHVN." Yeech. :p
