KHYI

I think KLUV does have competition, even if it isn't exactly "that" kind of competition. :)

I don't think so Robert. If you are thinking of KEOM,maybe on a technicality, but overall no. There is only one oldies station here..period. Only once classical station...period. No competition for either. True competition makes stations better in trying to win the audience, not sitting and being complacent.

I'm looking at it strictly from a music standpoint only. You're right that KLUV has no "true" oldies competitor per say. But the increased addition of 70's on KLUV is in essence competiton, is it not? I think so.

I see your point, but the competition is barely there. The personalities come into play, besides the "recipe file"and the good Doctor himself,KEOM has none. That's not a "slap" at KEOM. I am glad it does what it does, and you are doing a great job. The playlist is far better than KLUVs "over researched" every 5-6 hour rotation spin. I would drop the Kenny Nolan Song "Dreamin" however ;). True competition is head to head, not a "variety of formats" as some CONsulants will say in defense. I said before if KDOK could be heard in all of DFW,it could swamp KLUV ,except the morning drive period.

OK just curious, why would you drop that song? :)

In my opinion, it's rather difficult to program a music format stuck in one decade, and I don't think doing all 80s is the answer either. I think we should do at least two decades. This market has changed since the All 70's format started 10 years ago. Locked in one decade, especially with a "Lost Hits..." liner, sometimes means playing some selections the big boys don't. That's becoming rather difficult since other stations (not just KLUV) are now spinning some 70's. It becomes a toss-up between playing only the hits, while still trying to retain the lost hits motto.

Mind you, it's not my decision on what liners are used. :(

Yeah it is difficult to a degree, but if you know your music, understand what audience you target, knowing what was popular and not by a group munching on free sandwiches plus a 6 oz Coke, then you can. The result will come easy. "Kenny Nolan's Dreaming" is more sappier than Kayro syrup:)The other ones are "Feelings""and Muskrat Love" (both versions).

Ewwwwww gross! Muskrat Love.... I just happened to read that right after eating. I need not describe the ill "Feelings" that washed over me. :p Thanks, KPLEX..... You do know what they say about paybacks, right? ;D

Indeed ;D

BTW I knew a DJ who played Led Zepplin's "Black Dog"and seged right into "Candyman" by Sammy davis Jr. just to get a reaction. Boy did he:)

Not to be terribly on topic or anything, but how's KHYI sounding these days?

They sound like they are all over the place. Very uneven in presentation ,music selection, etc.
