Kickin' the tires at a new format

Is there a station kickin' the tires on a new format ... well, say an oldie format on FM?

Hopefully not 91X. Too much heritage and potential to be great again as Finest City has been doing some nice things with the station.

Hmmm...so who could use the help in the market?
KUSS - muddling around in the low 2's 12+ = not too impressive
KPRI - limited signal so the high 1's they have seems OK
XGLX - is muddling around in the under 1s. A flip from Spanish AC to classic hits (what most people are calling oldies now) could "put them on the map", and make the 91.7 dial position better known in town
XHFG - similar scenario. Not doing much with their Spanish Contemporary format. A flip to classic hits could "put them on the map"
XOCL - has not set the market on fire since abandoning oldies. A return to "oldies" (ala WCBS's mea culpa in NYC) on 99.3 would be sweet justice

Differnet format. Classic hits is mostly 70's like KOLA while oldies is mostly 60's like KOOL.

could "put them on the map",

They are onthe map as the largest pop music net from Coata Rica to the US border, and very profitable in the home market of Mexico and, in this case, Tijuana.

Have you looked at the INRA rating in Tijuana? That's the 5th or 6th largest city in Mexico and its home market.

XOCL - has not set the market on fire since abandoning oldies. A return to "oldies" (ala WCBS's mea culpa in NYC) on 99.3 would be sweet justice

The new owner does FM talk networks out of Mexico City, not English formats. No interest at all from these folks, for sure.

Well you know when Chris starts to hear rumors, there usually is some smoke bellowing about.

David is absolutely right about the possiblities not being any of the Mexican signals - All of the current owners want Spanish language programing on their stations.

91x has no plans of changing anything at this time even though Finest City is going through some changes and sagging ratings for now. But don't rule anything out when it comes to them.

And if you believe Clear Channel's stand on dumping oldies a few years ago has changed - Don't be too sure of that. They aren't the ones putting it back on the air in the markets they abandoned.

Anyway - with Oldies or Classic Top 40 or whatever name they give it these days returning in several markets. It may only be a desire from those of us missing it in San Diego, to look for any possibility that it will return someday.

As Chris always says - Stay Tuned!

What about them?
KSON isn't going anywhere any time soon (and formerly JP already axed olides from sister 94.9).
Clear Channel has already tried Oldies on 94.1, 99.3 and what is now the other coutnry station, 95.7 (remember when Kool was on 95.7?). Putting Oldies (or pop based Classic Hits) on 95.7 would be the second time around. I don't see it happening

It's been there/done that for both of em. If KBEST were to come back, it would be the 3rd time around for an Oldies (or pop based Classic Hits) style format on 94.9.

I'm thinking KPRI will get back the KCBQ calls and go Oldies or Pop based Classic Hits. It's the only thing I can think of.
Ah, the speculation game begins...

Uh,

Go back and read the first message in the thread. The implication is we are talking about an FM here.
540 is been there done that already, and I'm not sure anyone would even notice or care.

That's all it was; just kickin' the tires. Two country el FM; and one country el AM.

Stay tuned ....
