Kick's 10 in a row

I have noticed that Kicks no longer refers to it's music sets as 10 in a row,I wonder if it had anything to do with the Bull's 60 min comercial free Bull ride.

Or maybe Q100's identically named and constantly touted "10 in a row" sweeps? I'm not sure which came first, but why one would give their music set the exact same moniker that a crosstown competitor uses is beyond me...

I'm pretty sure Kicks had it first. Q100 added it because all (or virtually all) Cumulus CHR's do the 10 in a row. I'm guessing Jan Jeffries was oblivious to the fact Kicks was doing it, and of course the formats are different.

I actually think RhubarbFan is on to something here. The Bull has been portraying itself as playing much more music than Kicks and has been doing the 60-minute commercial-free Bull rides (probably partially because the station hasn't been able to sell as many spots are it would like).

After kind of analyzing The Bull, I'm thinking Scott Lindy is probably a very smart and creative guy given a lot of things I'm hearing on the air. But one thing that I thought was interesting was a sweeper saying if you tune to Kicks now, you'll get commercials as opposed to music on The Bull. I switched to Kicks and sure enough they were in a stop set.

Well, we did '10 in a row' in the early 70s on WTBC, so I don't think either could claim a first with the idea. It's been around a while.

Scott Lindy seems to be doing a heck of a job at the Bull, playing more music than Kicks, and recently adding "Buzz Cuts" which I suppose is new, younger music. The imaging sounds great, and Jason and Kristen in the morning sound good to me. All that being said, Kicks seems to land consistently in the top 10 whenever the ratings come out, and because of the loyalty factor, I really don't see that changing much. I hope it does because I'd like to see some good old fashion competition in the Country market.
I'm seeing Kenny Chesney in a couple of weeks, and I know even b4 I get there it won't be Jason and Kristen up on that stage introducing the acts, It'll be Caddy and Dallas, it happens at every concert. This must be frustrating for the Bull since a big show like that would give you high visibility. What determines what stations gets to do the intro, is it something that the stations pay for?

I know Y106 use to do 10 in a row back in the day,the Bull is prably not selling the commercial spots like it wants to with all the mess going on at Clear Channel. I don't seee the Bull taking down Kicks anytime soon, they had a chance to a year and a half ago when Eagle went bye bye. One of the things Bull should have done was add some of the older music that Eagle use to play to attract the former Eagle listeners. In the days leading up to and after Eagle went away WNGC in Athens jumped all over it.

Hmm, not sure if all the listeners from the Eagle went over to WNGC, especially in Metro atlanta, they may have just went to Kicks and followed Dallas over there, that's my guess, or maybe the Legend?
As I'm Guessing by your screen name, (Rhubarbfan), you may be one of those listeners. What have you done since the demise of Eagle?

You are correct jimbo772 alot of the former Eagle listeners did follow Dallas over to Kicks, that was one of the reasons they kept her, that and her and Caddy had a history togther on Y. I went to Kicks to but I listen to WNGC alot also.

off topic....but what's up with Kick's signal today? Barely audible in northern Gwinnett County. Did they power down or go to an auxilliary transmitter? Just curious...

Didn't that happen a few months ago--and the culprit was both the aux and the main transmitter running (causing all manner of interference)?
