kicks 104.. (WYOK)

how long will they will stop saying "the new" it's almost what? 2 years since the switch?
and what happened to their morning show? now it sounds like it's some synd. crap..

(i saw their home page promoting it.. captain something)

-rob outside of FWB area (in the middle of nowhere.. in FL)

Rob, we've had stations drag out calling themselves "new" around here for years. Sometimes they stay "new" until they flip to another format.

In defense of WYOK, they are the newest Country station in the market, so it's not stretching things out like some other stations have.

I believe 98 Surf was "The new 98 Surf" for it's entire existence.

I assume this type of marketing happens all over the country.

If I remember correctly, 95.5 in Atlanta was "new" for several years. Heck, maybe they're still "new."

heh... maybe in reference to "new sending in HD quality" (though, 104.1 was one of the first around here to send in iboc.. yes?

-Rob

98 Surf was just 98 Surf for the month and a half before switching to 98one Classic Rock...but you are right, it was new until
s-o-m-e-o-n-e couldn't take a 8 year old station being new...

the syndicated stuff happens to be Rick and Bubba, if it hasn't changed in a couple of days.

they had a local morning show then it got canned.
R&B I BELIEVE are out of atlanta.

Hotseat responded:
Nope. Birmingham.

Okay, this is a stretch for those of you who haven't read all the excellent posts on the NWFL board from our friend Rob (affection is legit..)

Atlanta or Birmingham .. who cares? According to Mapquest they are the same distance to Navarre. 317 days by mule, a little
over 7,000 km. ---- still to close for R & B... (<<<That part I added myself...for effect) 8)

The real question is how many strobey's the flagship tower has? It must be huge to get all the way into Navarre?

Thoughts>?

The tower for the R&B flagship is large. 26,587 feet if I remember right. It's the ONLY possible way they can get all the way down here. Ever see anyone trying to switch bulbs out on that tower? Bringing popcorn is a must!! :p

Tibbs, I think you're a little off when it comes to "Mule-Power." Assuming he is only traveling in daylight hours and using modern roadways and bridges he should be able to travel at least 50 miles a day. If looking at a map, traveling from Atlanta southward, it should take 1 day to cross each county by mule. That's actually a law in Georgia, they drew the map based on the Mule Law.

Now if he does it the old fashion way and has to wait for the ferry to cross bays and rivers, has to set up camp at night, and has to worry about being ambushed by Indians, I don't think Rob could make it across the Alabama state line. It's dangerous up there! Remember Kicks 104 is from Atmore, home of the Indian bingo palace of the redneck riviera. Unless he's got the gold to gamble, they'll surely scalp him.

I think he'd be better off hitching a ride on a steam boat. Much safer and faster.

See, this is what happens when you let an online website calculate your Mule Power. It's never right. The other day Mapquest directed my mule to cross a local lake... On a road that has been under water for 60-something years. ::)

You laugh, but I once caught the overnight R&B replay on WQEN, back in its Gadsden days, in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Foley. Now THAT'S a tall tower. ;D
