Kicks is Reacting

With The Bull using the positioner, "The biggest hits, the biggest stars," the Kicks jocks are now saying "the biggest hits from the biggest stars" whenever they talk.

The is the old Arbitron theory that when 2 stations are saying the same thing, listeners credit the established, better known station in the diary.

Country competition in the capital of the South is what I've wanted for years. Now we have it!

KICKS has been using that since the CMA awards spots they run, and is currently on its billboards that have been up since October. Its the other way around. CC used what KICKS had started.

I was just listening to Kicks again, and I've listened to Kicks a fair amount over the past few months. Up until this week, the jocks came out of songs with, "Today's country, Kicks 101-5." But starting yesterday or today, they've been saying, "Today's country means the biggest hits from the biggest stars." And within the short time I was just listening, I heard a promo talking about how Kicks plays "the biggest hits from the biggest stars."

I'll take your word when you say that Kicks was using the positioner first, and that it's on billboards. But frankly, it had to have been a minor part of the Kicks formatics until yesterday or today.

So are you like some big cheese at Kicks/the Eagle? If so is the rumor about Eagle going BACK to "southern fried rock" true? If so when? Also what about the NA$CAR deal? Will ya'll still have that?

It doesn't take an insider to notice what's on a billboard.

As an old Y106 employee, I cant tell what Bull is doing. Sounds identical to Kicks. How can they compete against two heritage country stations doing that...?

Other than bringing back Moby and going nuts with promotion, I'm at a loss as to what a winning tactic is. There's not a single morning show they could bring in that would be meaningful. God knows Kicks has tried in the last 36 months to find an A+ morning show. This is 80sMAXmix1057realradio1053project961 redux with Kenny Chesney instead of Elton John.

kicks is typical of the breed. They fired their A+ icon morning show and faltered ever since. Well not really faltered so badly since the folks that were in a "yeah baby" mindset drifted to 106 which is the same company. Am I the only one who sees firing a dj on a country station in the deep south because he is too "southern" as a bit strange? Are stations going to fire Joyner because he's too black? I don't think so.

Moby was fired because he made too much money. Add the fact that Moby and Victor didn't "mesh".....
ClearChannel is going through a similar phase where they see talent as easily replaceable and no individual is worth $500,000 a year.
And maybe they are right!

CC is getting to the point where $35K is getting to be too much for anyone to make.
