"Kicks on Route 66" - songs with city titles. Fantasy weekend programming

Re: "Kicks on Route 66" - songs with city titles. Fantasy weekend programming

Kansas City, Hey Hey Hey--Little Richard + Beatles
Wichita Lineman--Glen Campbell

Re: "Kicks on Route 66" - songs with city titles. Fantasy weekend programming

How big of a geographical area do you want? For song titles, there is "Africa" by Toto.

For group names, there is America, of "Today's the Day" and "Horse with no name" fame. (I believe their song "Ventura Highway" has already received a mention here!)

For a slightly smaller geographical area, there was the group New England back in the late '70s, who had the minor hit, "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya."

Cities, states, countries they are all good...we would have run out of cities pretty quick anyway...

"Living in America"...James Brown.
Then there was the 80's prog-rock group Asia, and a '90s pop group Presidents of the United States of America.

Thanks for the mention of Keith Whitley. (Sorry, but I had to go off topic in Keith's memory)

In his short but fantastic career as a major C/W artist (1984-89) he charted nineteen singles on the Billboard country charts, including five consecutive Number Ones: "Don't Close Your Eyes", "When You Say Nothing at All", "I'm No Stranger to the Rain", "I Wonder Do You Think of Me" and "It Ain't Nothin'" (the last two posthumously). “I’m Over You” went to #3 postumously in 1990.

Whitley’s career (and life) ended abruptly in May 1989 due to alcohol poisoning, an evil he had fought for most of his life. Shortly before his death, he recorded (on a home recorder) an agonizing love song to the love of his life, Lorrie Morgan, with whom he was separated, in part due to his alcoholism. Listen to a cover of “Tell Lorrie I Love Her” and hear the pain he felt within, knowing he could not overcome his addiction to alcohol.

I'm not trying to be argumentaive or unpleasant, but I don't think REO Speedwagon fits in this catagory. The REO Speed Wagon was a motor truck manufactured by REO Motor Car Company. REO are the initials of the company's founder, Ransom E. Olds, also the founder of the Oldsmobile (company later sold to General Motors and the brand retired in 2004). Did I miss something?

Regards...

Shouldn't that Alan Jackson title be "Midnight in Montgomery"? I only remember this because I would play that song over 540 WDXN in Clarksville, TN, in the early '90s, back when they were country, and say something like, "it may be midnight in Montgomery, but it's (whatever the correct time was) in Montgomery County!" (Clarksville is in Montgomery County, Tennessee.)

95.5 the Wolf (http://www.955thewolf.com) here in Nashville has created an interesting "duet" of both Keith Whitley and Allison Krauss singing "When You Say Nothing At All." Obviously, they never met, because Allison was just a teenager when she started her career in 1990, and is still only in her 30s now. She covered "When You Say Nothing" in 1995 or so. Not sure if the Wolf is broadcasting online, but if they are, maybe you can hear it there.

Allison Krauss is multitalented and I would certainly enjoy hearing her duet with Whitley, or any other male talent for that matter. Thanks...
