KICKS Rumor

Don't know how reliable this is, but I'm told KICKS is considering the possibility of pairing Sandy Weaver with Craig Cornett, as a new morning team. Anyone else heard this?

Sandy Weaver sounded absolutely great this week filling in, as she always does. I'm not sure if you mean taking the place of Jill Kelly or having equal billing with Craig Cornett.

Interestingly, in the early 1990's, Weaver was co-host of the morning show on WMZQ-FM, the country station in D.C. After not too long of a time, she was doing the morning show by herself. Then she moved to Atlanta because her husband was transferred here.

If you mean replacing Jill Kelly, I think that would be a waste of her talent. If you mean co-hosting on an equal footing, how that would go is hard to say. But I wish Kicks would give Weaver a full-time shift.

Maybe she could co-host with Moby ;-)

I'm not sure, either. My impression was that it would be a co-host type thing. But again, that's only my impression. And I was told this is still in the "discussion" stages...with no final decision made yet.

You'll be surprised by who already has the job, and for how little, and who the people were they passed on that they could have had. This may be market #10, but it's about getting the money spent on talent down.

Anyone know why she left Lite-FM, where she had the afternoon drive for a few years, then went back part time to Kicks?

I know who has the job, but as we have all learned from my previous posts, my middle name is "vague." Let me see if I can give you a clue...hmmmm... SHE just left another show in the Atlanta market.

"Craig Cornett and Porsche Foxx in the morning." I like the sound
of it! :)

Simple. Clear Channel was looking to cut costs at Lite (read: voicetrack!) and gave her an insulting re-up offer, so insulting that she no choice but to leave.

YOU'D be suprised on how little accuracy is in ANY of this. no co-host, no legions of people passed on...not even interviewing for one. Reading this makes me believe very little read on this board. Kicks was looking for a morning show producer and hired one.

Leave it to CC to let a great local talent like Weaver to leave in favor of a mediocore voice tracked J.T. to save a few bucks.

You people stop teasing me! Nothing would be better for the Cornett show than a replacement for Jill Kelly. (Unless KICKS replaced Cornett himself.) The mere fact that Kelly is still on the air in the morning is a statement by station management that the position of News Director at that station is now just window dressing. Have you heard Jill's news breaks? Thankfully, those 30 seconds of froth are the only time that she's not giggling like a little girl.

By the way, what has happened to Jim Vann? Somebody hard wired the mute button on Jim's mike. The only time I hear his dulcet tones is at his traffic report. Jim....leave KICKS while you still have some dignity left.
