Kid Rock's "All Summer Long"

This has been a very strange AC song. It seems like just about every AC plays it now, but where was it when it came out in 2008? Why did it take 2 years for the AC stations to pick up on it? Just sort of funny that it didn't really chart and wasn't played on AC initially but rapidly became a staple nearly in 2010.

Have any other songs in recent years done this?

Hmmm, well, my AC was playing it by late 2008. As often happens, it had run it's course elsewhere.....on the Country, Rock, and Top 40 stations to familiarize it, and it came to AC. As I recall, it did hit the AC chart, quite favorably.....we did, eventually "rest" it when it became burnt. But, it came back in in early 2010 and sits in recurrent. Maybe you missed it on it's first run on AC, and you're just noticing it come back after some "rest" time. I'm guessing it will likely rest again by close of summer, as it's rather seasonal, and does burn.
Incidentally, the only listener complaints I ever got about the song (maybe 3 or 4?) were that we chose to play the version that lifts the reference to "smoking funny things"....NO complaints that the song did not fit the format.
I wondered if it might get complaints, but that's not the thing I expected anyone to have a problem with... ha ha
Yes, AC is changing.....but, of course, the 45 year old female is much different than she was 20 years ago too....

Maybe it did have some success and just nobody played it in my market. I agree, very seasonal song. Personally, I see no problem with it being on an AC station.

What's funny is that when I first heard the intro, I thought it was a remix of "Werewolves of London," the Warren Zevon song from 1978.

One of our local country stations played the Kid Rock song a lot last summer.

I recall hearing it on classic rock stations last summer, stations that normally don't play "current" stuff. I was simultaneously hearing it on AC stations about the same time. Didn't realize that it was two years old. I didn't hear it for the first time until last summer.

As long as they don't play "Picture," the duet with Sheryl Crow. I'm STILL sick to death of that one! ::)

A real fun song, especially this time of year. I recall many A/C's playing it with the "smoking weed
line edited out.

Sampling "Werewolves of London" and "Sweet Home Alabama" helps.

Sorry I can't give any room to that title, it already belongs to the Beach Boys. 8)

"Remember when you spilled Coke all over you blouse?"

"T-shirts, cutoffs, and a pair of thongs....We've been having fun all summer long."
