Kidd Chris: I'm "Over" In Philly

In a story in today's Inquirer covering a recent post on Kidd Chris' blog, the former WYSP morning host said of his current situation:

"Everyday I get a TON of messages about [what happened] with me. Not much I can really talk about . . . . I've been thru this and it's a part of the biz I chose. I miss doing the show with the guys SO much and I REALLY miss talking to Philly everyday, but those days seems to be over. Whatta ya gonna do? RATS run the biz. . . and rats will be poisoned."

Kidd Chris also had supportive words for former KYW3 anchors Alycia Lane and Larry Mendte:

Kid Chris did have a loyal following in Philly and it's weird that they let him go a month after the bit. I say follow the money or lack of it.

if you have a "loyal following," you also have ratings. he had no ratings. what he did have, however, was a ton of billboards, bus stops, etc., with his face on them. they shoved that guy down our throats and it didn't work. moving on ...

"the rats will be poisoned." ???

please, chris. you sound like a spoiled teenager. you had more than your 15 minutes. find a nice medium market that has nothing (shouldn't be too hard) and settle in with a steady paycheck for 20 years or so. it's much more than most radio people ever get. count your blessings.

All of those outdoor ads were for his afternoon show, which DID get ratings.
Mornings, however.... what can you expect taking on P&S? It's been the default morning show for around 3 years now, and Chris was on for all of... six months? Of COURSE he had no ratings.

If he had more time he probably would have pulled good numbers.

P&S IS LAME, It amazes me the numbers they pull in, yeah let's spend an hour talking about EZ-Pass on the turnpike, and have Steve inject BAD HUMOR then thrust that goofy looking casey laugh in to the mike....

What has become of good morning radio. Howard Please come back!

You can have a loyal following without having ratings. My fans back when I was doing mornings were about as loyal as they come, but my ratings were in the crapper.

It's good to have loyal fans. It's better to have a lot of casual fans.

Chris is another "I didn't so anything wrong" crybaby...when he did. You sign a contract that contains certain terms including operating a board...which controls what goes out on the air and another clause that discusses the language that may and may not be included in such airshifts.

He violated it...by allowing a guest(s) to perform a song with such unallowed material...he got fired! End of story. Why he's still getting press from the local Philly people...slow news day. They should know better. I'd rather hear more about who's coming to town, who's in town, etc. then see another story by a has been whining about losing his job well after the fact.

Which may not be as clear and detailed as you think.

Though racial material did NOT first debut on his show with that song. It had been with his show sine he started here in 2005. If CBS radio really had an issue with it, he wouldn't have made it through 2006. CBS radio knew what his show had, and were willing to shell out major $$ to keep him here. The problem was that the wrong person heard it and complained.

You know Howard's on Sirius, right? For $13 a month, you can listen to all the F words and testicular/vaginal electrocution you want :)

Terrestrial radio is now strictly for safe, family-friendly, minority-friendly, pick-you-up-and-make-you-feel-good content. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Due to the fact that we are now in an era where we have the right to not get our feelings hurt... When you do compelling content on terrestrial radio, you piss someone off. Then, they make up a letterhead, send a letter to your boss, and you get fired. That's why it's best to not try to perform the proverbial brain surgery on regular radio. Just load the dial up with more channel choices. There's plenty of music out there, from the past and present, to fill dozens of channels.

A contract not as clear as you think? LOL

I've worked for CBS before and know 1st hand how detailed their talent contracts are. They're VERY specific about on-air material. If he'd aired that kind of material before, it's possible mgmt. didn't have enough legal recourse to whack him. But were able to disclipline him in some fashion.

It's not a case of "wrong person" hearing it and reporting...it's an obvious case of one time too many and the way it was broadcast, in which he crossed the line. There's no room in radio for racist people (talent or guests) to display their views like that....period!

if you go from afternoon drive to morning drive, it stands to reason that those same people would be able to find him, especially on the same station. chris had ratings when he was the new kid in town (and a full staff). ultimately, YSP probably was interested in going in another direction, which they have.

Bottom line is....Now who gives a s**t about what ysp is doing.

Kidd chris carried that channell and was ysp's last dying breath and they(cbs) were able to destroy whatever chance he had in the morning. CBS couldn't hold on to Stern... Then bring in Diamond Dave ???... They could ruin a 3some.

Anybody catch Stern today on Sirius talking about how Chris was NOT paid out on the remainder of his contract because he was fired with cause?

Bummer.
