Kidd Chris/In Perspective

I see a few negative posts re: Kidd Chris and his shtick on the board. Just wanted to offer a bit of perspective...if you guys don't mind. Here goes:

He got the gig; Infinity hired him...knowing what his shtick is and how he sounded. They must have heard something they liked for the gig. If and when he should or might move to Mornings is pretty much up to his reception among the YSP'ers and MMR'ers, et al, as well as how the overall ratings work out.

I don't know the man and I have only caught a few pieces here and there of his show. What I heard didn't amaze me nor make me hate him. He was just another voice on the dial.

However...he's on air in the 6th market. That automatically makes him a player, imho. Let's give him some room to work out the incredible complexities of a new station in a new city before hundreds of thousands of anonymous listeners.

Remember that most all of us in Radio...like a caravan of gypsies...have moved from strange city to strange city...hoping that WE would be accepted at that new station. I'm willing to give the guy some time to work out...or not; aren't you?

I have also only listened to his show a little here and there, and I haven't heard anything to make me want to tune in more, or anything to make me run him over with a car either. If he is talking a lot about rap and hip-hop, is it POSSIBLE that Infinity is testing the waters for a format flip after Sterns departure?

> Hmmm....Let's see Philly is a huge URBAN market, however it was instrumental in the ROCK scene too. WYSP is known for NOT SPORTS but somehow as a ROCK station, it's even in their motto. I can't see infinity flipping WYSP to a Urban flavor, regardless of how successful the format is. Philly already is suffering from format overkill in that area. They already have Q102, Power 99, Wired 96.5, WDAS, 100.3. I think the black community has plenty of radio in Philly, let's remember that ROck listeners buy things too and need more than just WMMR to hear their rock music. I just hope that WYSP doesn't try that hot-talk sh*t again, that was a great way to kill "The Rock Station". I just think that WYSP suffers from an Identity crisis. I tryied to give Kidd chris a fair shake when he was in his 1st week. I can't stand all the lame childish talk, and boring show format. He is not for me, and like the previous post said, someone at Infinity likes him!

You know Identity crisis or not (Im not sure what makes you say that, is it that they play rock and have a good amount of talk too? between Eagles etc?) Philly is over satrurated urban wise, with Y100 gone there is not so much fo a rock saturation anymore and even if there were YSP was and still is on top of the pack where the rock station's are concerned. Plus Infinity can make a lot more money with YSp's Male 25-54 demos than they would with any Urban demos because they tend to skew a bit younger. NO format flip happening there.
