Kidd Chris vs Preston and Steve?

First off let me say that I listen to Stern when I'm in the car, but when I go to the office I listen to Preston, and Steve. In the past few weeks I've been listening to Kidd Chris in the office, and I think he's much better than P&S. I think he will take over the top spot very soon. What does everyone else think?

My vote goes to Kidd because of that waste of space kathy romano can't stand that woman

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I loathe Kidd Chris. Preston and Steve, whatever their pitfalls, are more like old drinking buddies and I'll take their show any day of the week.

Maybe I'm crazy, but Preston and Steve must be doing something right. Anything is possible...Kidd Chris may overtake them someday. But it will take a long time to do it. P&S have been doing it for so long, and are so established, that nobody is going to come in an unseat them immediately. I mean, even Stern took a while to beat DeBella. Although looking back, I still don't get how DeBella was ever #1, but that's for another thread.

While I am def. a fan of KC, I think it is going to take some time to 'overtake' P&S. I think ysp needs to spend some big bucks on marketing to make locals aware of their new morning show. YSP has not had a local morning show for quite some time.

Marketing..Marketing....Marketing

Kidd Chris fills a niche... unfortunately, its a very small one. You didn't reference what 'top spot' means? #1 among all stations? #1 in persons 18-54? Whatever the case, he's got an uphill battle with a company that has little-to-no patience for mediocre results.

YSP's currently ranked #17 overall (persons 6+), and while he may be successful with males 18-34 in coming months, but he needs to appeal to a much wider audience before taking 'over the top spot' becomes an a valid discussion.

I think Chris will be the number one show in Philly but it'll take some time. The other morning shows are so un-original. CBS has to put money behind him though and market the show. If their counting on word of mouth or someone just stumbling onto it it'll be a long road. I'll give MMR credit-they do market P&S. (TV, billboards etc). I'm sure though Chris has a locked in contract where they can't pull him or flip formats on him without a huge buyout.

On KC's originality:

...guess the cherry
...new song parodies daily
...what your in for
...pr0stituti0n 'price is right'

I could care less about Ike Turners death. BUt when KC hacks his voicemail and plays the voicemails over the air, It stirs my interest greatly. (Not to mention the guy from Quit Riot) Also, he tends to change his 'intros' and sounders quite often. From start to finish, P&S's show is the same basic layout everyday. They, or should I say Steve, just inserts whitty humor where needed.

Although prank phone calls are nothing new to radio, KC's never seem to get old and always get me to laugh. I guess I'm easily amused and thats fine.

I have seen nothing original come out of the P&S. Just aped bits from other shows no longer in town. i.e. ''F.U." line or should we call it "love you, hate you" line.

But hey, what can be more original than having a call screener reminding callers what 'phrases' to shout when they pick up your line.

Song parodies and prank calls (Phone Scams anyone? Should we put Barsky in the morning on YSP?) are nothing original either.

I like Preston and Steve because I thin it's the perfect combination of people. Preston keeps the show running smoothly. Steve is damned funny. Kathy, Nick, Casey and Marisa all add their own flavor to the show. Sure, I know people hate one or all of them, but together I personally think they're one of the best casts in radio. You can relate to them well, and they entertain well.

I tuned into Chris' show a few times when he was on in afternoons, and I felt it was nothing special. Now that he's on mornings, I doubt I'll tune in since I'm so engrained into listening to P&S. IF Chris wants to compete... he and CBS Are going to have to find a way to get some VERY loyal P&S listeners to switch... and that won't be easy.

While parodies and prank calls are not new, KC are always original in their context. But i never seemed to care for Barsky's at all. But thats for a different topic!

I totally agree with you there. ;D

They've never needed to be different. Now that competition is back in town, it will at least prompt an evaluation if change is warranted.

As for switching P&S listeners over, the listeners of the Kidd Chris show are well known for violating call-in format shows on a consistent basis and making the national news because of it. I'm sure there's a reason P&S haven't been the targets yet.

I do know that the silence is eerie.

Chris has been saying since he began in AM that P&S aren't his priority right now, that he needs to focus on rebuilding WYSP before he can take them down, yet also promises to have much in store once the rebuilding period is over.

Flipped over to P&S during KC's 1st break, looks like P&S is doing a bit awfully similiar to KC. But P&S are calling it "Disco Bush". KC has been, for 2 years, doing a bit called "Christmas Trimmings"

While their bit has nothing to do w/ the holidays, they are attempting to copy the bit. It seems a bit odd for P&S to do the bit this week
