Radio Ink is reporting that Kraddick is coming to Tucson.“Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” is set to debut on Z104.1 Tucson beginning Monday June 12. The show will be heard weekdays from 5am-9am.
This will be good for the market. Kidd does a good show for Top40/AC. It will be interesting to see how if any effect it has on JJ & R, considering that Rich was Kidds producer for a while. Big Al on the show is pretty funny.Lamey
Call me old school. but music stations have been the last bastion of localism in radio. Most AM's, especially AM Talkers make Toledo the same as Albuquerque. I understand the economics of it, but it'e nice to know that at least with FM's there is a local uniqueness to the primetime product. I hate seeing the camel's nose under the tent.
You most certainly have a point there but the fact of the matter is its here. I think its sad that management couldn't have a show in that slot on that station, a local one, win. Wayne and Darrin could have done it but it seems that maybe some stations dont want to deal with show in house? Could that be it? It all boils down to entertainment? Marketing? What morning show in town is getting most amount ofoutdoor and tv, is it making a difference?Lamey
Does anyone know exactly what are the economics of this kind of deal? From what I have read and heard some of the syndicated shows are easily as expensive as local ones. And not just Stern. Or is this show just like a weekend special that the company runs in exchange for clearing some national spots?
I'm a PD who is having HUGE success with Kidd (and has success with him before), Top 100 market.Knowing the cost vs. what it was taking to pay BOTH Darrin & Wayne (knowing them both-having worked with both), the savings are significant.
We tend to something think as Jocks that the bottom line for us is the paycheck we get (Hopefully) every two weeks. Other cost include Insurance, Expenses, promo and marketing creation etc...however, I dont want to knock what we do, the flipside is - your local jock can be visible to the public a ton more then a Syndicated Out of Market Jock, they can DO more for local charity and Public Service Organizations (Right Alan!?) and they can work with sales on Marketing and Promotions. A lot of the success of a show is also dependant on how much the jock is doing behind the scenes to make it click. In some situations for local jocks the Egos can certainly give the "bean counters" a reason to turn a look at the Syndicated shows. Rusty Humphries produced a documentary a few years ago all about Morning Radio and it talked with some of the most succesful morning guys in the country with huge Cume and Top35 (Other than Dwyer and Michaels) and it really laid out why syndicated shows could get bigger pieces of the pie. Doesn't it all boil down to entertainment and likeability to the audience? The other big question is will Journal promote this show with enough results to knock some numbers from KRQ and Mix? (Interesting, could Kraddicks show tap into Mix numbers?) Now, will somebody else start up a Country here in the market with John Boy and Billy or Lex and Terry?Lamey
