As Reported on All Access:

CBS Talk KIFR (106.9 FREE FM)/SAN FRANCISCO names former KKDG/FRESNO personalities CHRIS DANIELS and BRAD GEISE their new night team (7p-10p), effective immediately. "CHRIS & BRAD," who have been the temporary night hosts on FREE FM for the last several weeks, will do their show from studios at CBS/FRESNO this week (9/11-9/15) before starting in the SAN FRAN studios beginning the week of 9/18.

Another brilliant move by CBS. A night team from Market #66 hops to Market #4....yeah right.

Who?

Chris Daniel has been in the Fresno market for decades-- he was a morning show anchor at KRZR forever, then bounced around a couple of Infinity stations with a talkshow. He was very, very popular in that market, and is a very funny host. I wish him and Brad the best of luck, since they're going to need it at that station. It's about time Chris got a shot at the big time. And he's not known for showing up wasted for work, so he's light-years ahead of some former Free-FM hosts.

If were talking in light-years, then spending decades in Market #66 means that you are light-years away in talent compared to folks more suited for a gig in a major market. All this means is that the suits at CBS have plans of a major overhaul at that station (possible format flip) and these guys were willing to take a shot at the big time while pulling in 15 bucks an hour. This station did not even show up in the last book and has no other local talent other than a couple of hacks from Fresno. Is this really KIFR's answer to righting the ship?

Pretty cynical, Dan. I've never heard Chris or Brad in my life, but why would a guy who's popular (and probably makes decent money) in market 66 want to pull up stakes and move north where it's expensive to live just to warm the seat at $15 per hour until a format flip? If CBS is planning on flipping formats at KIFR soon, why not just plug in a cheapo syndicated show?

Also - I've heard talented radio people in small markets who never make it to the "big time" for a number of reasons - they don't want to move, they like their hometown or don't want to leave family, or they just never get a break. Since we all complain that radio doesn't appreciate or nurture talent anymore, I think it's reasonable to assume that there are some highly talented people working in small markets.

Keller I see your point but let's be realistic here. The station had a 0.4 in the last book it actually showed up on and was missing on Arbitron's last book. Does CBS really think "Chris and Brad" are the answer to turning this station around?

Dan, any station does not pin its hopes on the 7-11 slot. they are hooking thier cart up to Leykis, Carolla and O & A.

"Chris & Brad"????

UGH!!! even the name of the show sounds like failure....these guys stink and you know how i know?

Out of Fresno....just like KFed

enough said. I thought the braintrust at Clear Channel was lacking....Infinity just one upped them in the "I am the Corky of radio" contest

Oh Sure...I'm gonna listen to them eveynight over shows like "Lost" .

...These guys were part of the "Front Row" morning show on KRZR for several years, and KMRQ-Modesto while it was still en ingles... I was always under the impression the show was done out of the Modesto studio, but I could be wrong.

Not a *horrible* morning show in my recollection, billed themselves as "Fresno's Longest Running Morning Show,"

Which would only require about 18 months of non-consecutive time on any station in the market, with the exception of KSKS's mornings...

I'm going to assume that sccop4you's snarkiness regarding Fresno is a joke, considering it's an excellent market to foster early careers, and as a city of almost 500,000 people, it isn't quite the podunk cow-town some people assume it to be. That said, Kevin Federline is from Clovis, not Fresno. And there is a difference.

What really is the purpose of this format? They must really believe in it to stick with it so long with NO success
