KIIS-FM Commercials

Don't listen to KIIS but on cluster mate KFI they aren't talking about "less is more" and it seems to me there are more commercial messages now. It could also be perception because I did hear Handel talking about them doing shorter spots like 15 and 20 seconds, so if you are hearing more announcements you might think there is more time for them and it is just the quantity that went up.

Advertisers are spending less (by force or by choice) and realize that a well-produced :30 can be just as effective, and cheaper in this dwindling economy, than a rambling :60. Just 'cause it's LA doesn't mean every business can afford $1,200 a throw.

Yep, most of the rest of the world has the 30" as the standard, too.

And, KFI hasn't been Less is More compliant for some time. Listen to KFI's own edition of Handel on the Law... there are 20-21 minutes of inventory an hour.

Less is more had different standards for AM talkers.

Is $1,200 the AM/FM average for a commerical in this market? If so what are stations like KFSH (a signal that doesn't cover the entire market) charging?

I read this week on Inside Radio that said CC felt Less is More had been an unqualified success, but now was the time to modify it, which meant more spots on some stations and fewer on others. Guess that success was qualified since the "revenue" part of the equation needed tweaking.
