KIIS FM Has Brand New Jingles

Yeah. KIIS uses new jingles from ReelWorld, just like their old package from 2004, which they had used until the new one came.

It seems that KIIS has completely dropped the non rhythmic pop artists like Kelly Clarkson and Jojo in favor of harder rap songs like "Walk it Out" and "Tell Me Where To Go". I wonder if this will have an negative impact in the next rating book. They are ignoring many songs that appeal to the KIIS demo. For example, the song "Over It" by Katharine McPhee. She's got a huge fan base here in LA. Plus, with the success of American Idol and Seacrest's involvement in the show, it may hurt rather than help KIIS by ignoring this song as well as other similar sounding pop songs.

Every time I hear this happening on the air, I keep thinking that the PD/MD suddenly came up with an idea to try and up his ratings against some particular station he has decided to compete with that morning.

I completely agree with you, radio124. I am trying to get katharine mcphee's new single "Over it" on any station in LA. if it were a few months ago, KIIS Fm would've played it because that was back when they played artists like that such as JoJo and Christina Aguliara. Hopefully, KIIS will see the error of their ways and start playing "Over It" very soon!!

A snowball has a better chance in Death Valley in the middle of the summer than you have of KIIS playing Kat or anything remotely resembling a pop record... it was like pulling teeth just to get "Unwritten" and "You're Beautiful" on there when they were hits... and you don't want to know how many #1 hits they haven't played over the past year... it's astounding... they aren't a CHR/Pop station in ANY sense of the word these days and should be moved to the CHR/Rhythmic panel...

They play the hits for the market. They do what they need to do to W-I-N... KIIS sounds great. They are targeting 18-34 Hispanic females. The problem is, because they are a CHR/Pop station, people think they have to play the songs on the chart. Radio stations have to be programmed TO THEIR MARKET.

When KIIS played pop hits a few years back, they had the lowest ratings in 20 years. Now they play the right hits for the market and they are successful.

KIIS has lost well over 10% of it's listeners the past year... that's the bottom line, like it or not.

And it's still up about 30% to three years ago when they were playing "all the hits" as a number of geniuses on this board refer to - before Steve Perun and John Ivey and tweaked it to play "all the hits that matter" in Los Angeles.

The 10% is well within normal fluctuation. If anything, KIIS has leveled off, and even with only around a 1 share, KMVN has probably pulled a little - as has KYSR playing more currents.

KIIS is the biggest cumer BY FAR in the market. Any music shifts in the market affect them.

You're known for what you play, not for what you don't.

This is a GREAT point... KIIS could have A LOT more listeners, particularly in the morning, IF they played more songs by Idol singers... People EXPECT to hear songs by the Idol singers on KIIS due to Ryan's association with the show... Currently, we have Daughtry with a #3 (soon to be #1) hit, Carrie Underwood in the top 30, and Katharine McPhee in the top 35... Not a heck of a whole lot that KIIS has done the past several months has made much of ANY sense... It's become one of the WORST programmed stations in the nation... it actually sounds A LOT worse now than KYSR... a year ago, I wouldn't have dreamed of saying something like that... but that's how it is now.

It's not rocket science here... unfortunately, KIIS no longer looks at numbers... and that 10%+ loss in listeners over the past year is just the start of the fall from grace for this onetime powerhouse pop station... unless they start sounding like a pop station again - playing the Nickelbacks, the Kelly Clarksons, the Avril Lavignes, etc, they are soon going to find themselves back in the 3's...

The question remains---why is KIIS chasing MUCH of the same audience that Power 106 is and has been chasing for over 15 years, as are a HUGE percentage of the CHR/Pop ststions from coast to coast, a trend which KIIS started 20 years ago when KPWR came aboard and swiped a HUGE chunk of their teens?

Perhaps the bean counters at CC have lost their focus???
