KIIS-FM LA keeps ignoring hit songs

I noticed that they keep skipping songs... which annoys me since other stations across the country are playing what KIIS doesn't play. KIIS TOTALLY ignored Cascada's "Evacuate the Dancefloor" (which rival AMP Radio skipped as well), which I was waiting to hear it on KIIS. They also ignored "Feel It" by Three 6 Mafia, Sean Kingston, Tiesto and Flo Rida and now they're ignoriing the new hit "Need You Now"... come on KIIS, I thought you were TOP 40. Even Las Vegas' 98.5 KLUC is playing those songs (and they're highly rhythmic like KIIS!)!

Wouldn't you be more annoyed if they were the same kind of cookie cutter station people blame just about every other CHR for being?

They're not skipping anything. The vast majority of their listeners aren't listening to CHRs across the country, and given the resources of that station, it's not like they're not asking their audience what they think the hits are.

Regardless, they have monster ratings, and were the number one billing radio station in the entire country in 2009. I wouldn't expect them to change much of their strategy.

I just got back from a spring break trip, and frankly I can't say that I heard current "hit" songs by any of those artists on any of the five or six CHR stations I sampled along the way.

Evacuate the Dance Floor by Cascada was a Top 10 hit. As for the other artists the poster mentioned, their slowly climbing the charts. Though, I am a little surprise KIIS didn't play Cascada.

Evacuate The Dancefloor was never quite top 10 on CHR. It made top 20 barely. HOWEVER, it is rhythmic-sounding so I am surprised KIIS didn't play it. Especially when Premium Choice was all over it and the programmers at KIIS as well as KISS Pittsburgh program Premium Choice. Premium Choice sucks.... musically, KIIS LA and KISS Pittsburgh aren't all that either.

That's pretty unbelievable considering that "Need You Now" is #8 in the country, and "Evacuate the Dancefloor" is still in the top 10 recurrents.

Not sure if Lady A. "Need You Now" is a good fit for either Los Angeles CHR, even if it is one of the most played and downloaded songs in the country right now. However, I also am surprised they didn't give Cascada a chance. I think it would have sounded good on KIIS.

I noticed that certain CHR's like XM 20 on 20 and Goom Radio has been taking CHR in a different direction, by breaking or trying to break songs that haven't charted. JTX "Party Like A Rock Star" and adding a feature called Hitbound. Goom Radio will promote unsigned artists and will sprinkle a few uncharted new songs in their rotation. Not following the trend of what's going on Clear Channel's or Entercom's tight research.
They were seem to be leading the trend of what's a hit or going to be for ahwile...until the product has showed some weakness alittle compared to what was happening (surprisingly) late quarter of 2009.

I'm just thankful that I'm in Phoenix, Az. where THREE stations played Cascada's "evacuate the dancefloor"! ;D AND... AND... I'm also glad I'm in Az where ALL of our rhythmic and top 40's are acknowledging Pitbull's "shut it down"!

Anyway, count your blessings - after all, you could be in Atlanta....

I remember back in the day when I used to get so excited to go to Cali for their radio stations. Now all I can ask is "what happened?" Even San Fransisco, however, still has some feel of excitement when it comes to the way they program their rhythmics. Without Power 106, Not sure what I'd do in L.A. AMP still doesn't have mixshows, so as fresh as they may sound, still no "action" or live, fun, party style atmosphere to look forward to.

By the way, I don't think I'm too fond of Christina Aguilera's new song. La Roux, however, I'm glad they finally crossed over into U.S. charts, although (thanks to Power 106) their "bulletproof" sounds a bit old to me since I heard the house version of it on Power 106 in July. I still love Taio Cruz, even though "break your heart" is already a year old, except for in this country. My fav. Cascada song at the moment is "Pyromania".

Well, I was actually happy at KIIS-FM last night. At about midnight or so they played the LMFAO/Fergie remix of "Gettin' Over You" by David Guetta. I was surprised they would play this, especially since it wasn't a mixshow.

Actually, I'm starting to like KIIS again. They're sounding pretty good recently and usually play most new songs mainly at night, and their "Friday Night Party" is sounding awesome, though "Club DV8" isn't all as great anymore. Though, on Saturday nights I either listen to Power 106 or even nearby Q104.7 and 99.1 KGGI for their mixes.

Hmmmm.... Wonder what Q104.7 has turned into these days?

I still say the best rhythmic I know today is WPOW.
Q104.7 was a good late 90's station, as was all the rhythmic top 40 stations in and near the L.A. area...

Don't (or hardly) hear Lady Antebellum nor Train on KIIS but they are Top 5 nationally. That's probably just an L.A. demographic thing though. Judging by their success, KIIS probably has a good handle on what works in L.A.

I like the dance version of Lady Antebellium,, but I also like the original, but it doesnt fit Kisses rhythmic sound.. I hate the train song,, so annoying... the lyrics and his voice belong on AAA or Hot AC.

I am surprised they didnt play Cascada. Most of the other songs you mentioned don't seem like they would fit in LA no matter how big they are nationally.

Like others have said KIIS has such great ratings right now, all the more impressive having a direct competitor, that they obviously are making the correct music decisions. If they had a playlist similar to the national chart it would really give AMP or another station the opportunity to come in with something more custom made for LA.

KIIS takes a while to come around to these songs. They had "Need You Now" at 26 spins last week. I also thought it was strange that they didn't jump on Cascada after a while.

I love the station, but it's hard to predict what songs they'll jump on. I mean, they were all over Taylor Swift, Orianthi, etc. But not on Owl City, Cascada, etc.

Oh, well. Like someone else said, Julie Pilat must be doing something right since she's #1!
