KIIS-FM Selects New APD/MD

KIIS-AM became KXTA (Xtra Sports) in 1997; since 2005 the station has been KTLK, "K-Talk 1150." There is no more KIIS-AM (although those call letters were used by 1220 AM in Canyon Country, 1999-2003). Why does KIIS-102.7 continue to call itself "Kiss-FM"? Why not just "Kiss"? Or do the words "Kiss-FM" simply make for a better jingle?

I think its for heritage and branding purposes- as I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in LA under 50 who can't sing along to the "102 point 7 Kiss FM" jingle. Kiss seems to be the brand for all of the other CC top 40 stations while the "original" (yes I know it wasn't technically the first top 40 Kiss station) and flagship gets a somewhat distinct identity.

After KKDJ became the FM side of KIIS on October 1, 1975, the jingle was "AM...FM...K-Double-I-S." At that same time Art Garfunkel had a remake of a 1959 Flamingos hit and Charlie Tuna often introduced it as I Only Have K-Double-Eyes For You. Wasn't that just too too cute?
