KIIS' Jackie O "Steps Away"

Maybe it's a stunt on a show that is famous for stunts? What if (a) this is complete hype or (b) Jackie just needed to take a few days off and they decided use that opportunity to create some press?

Either way, it's working -- the story is all over the news in Australia. Plus they still have a reveal or two left in a plotline like this.

Sidenote: they are in the last week of survey 1 for ratings in Sydney & Melbourne (ends on Saturday 2/28).

I guess it was not a stunt. Wow.

I visited Australia for the first time in 2024 and was very impressed with the Kyle and Jackie O Show. She will be very hard to replace. Her on-air chemistry with Kyle was undeniable.

The general public is very sceptical about this, with most still saying that it is a “ratings stunt”. Knowing how volatile Kyle is, having burnt many staff both on and off the show, you really do have to ask whether their periods of “best of” shows (in ratings periods) in the past were actually circuit breakers.

It is interesting to note that while her contract was terminated, network bosses are willing to offer Jacky other opportunities.

Headline is confusing...I thought this was LA's KIIS at first. Is this licensed from iHeart? I also wonder why they use the KIIS spelling instead of KISS.

I got the impression, during my two week visit to Australia, that Kyle & Jackie O were as popular and controversial as Howard and Robin in their prime. My guess is that Kyle will turn up down the dial in Sydney. Jackie has other interests, such as TV and a podcast, and I can see her leaving radio completely.

The Guardian Australia did an in-depth look at the content of Kyle & Jackie O back in 2024:

Reading this back, and seeing some of the unpleasant racist content of the show, it wouldn't surprise me if ARN had been looking for a reason to dump the show for a while, and this is an opportune moment.

I did read an article yesterday that featured someone from an ad agency who openly encouraged his clients to avoid the program at all costs. This guy stated that aside from content issues, he and his team were well aware that activist group Mad F@%ng Witches going after advertisers, and harrassing businesses who may/may not know that their spots landed in the show. I think ARN have finally worked out that the contoversy isn't worth the loss of revenue.

Tomorrow (17/3) Kyle has to answer to ARN about his contract breach. Today, ACMA imposed new rules on both personalities going forward for a period of 5 years.
