KIIS Sets Wango Tango

KIIS FM has scheduled its annual Wango Tango concert:

This show seems to have replaced KROQ's annual Weenie Roast as the radio event to attend.

What is this 2004? Radio stations still do concerts?

Yes. KIIS does several every year, including their annual Jingle Ball:

iHeart recently held its annual Music Awards show in LA:

Remember in 2001 when Wango Tango was so big, they made it a TWO-DAY event at DODGERS STADIUM?

Radio ain't what it used to be.

Kroq use to have weenie roast for years but it went away with covid and never came back😢 Unlike Alter ego alt 98.7 big concert post holidays went away also but came back. Wango tango has been gone for a little while and is now back. Does anyone know why wango tango went away?

To me it's just plain dumb for not bringing back weenie roast. At the time perhaps a Mike Kaplan decision.

They might only have the budget for one big concert a year and decided to put it all into the Almost Acoustic Christmas concert.

These events are profit centers, not expenses. The issue is how many clients want to buy the event package, not the cost per se. This kind of event ceased being "for promotional purposes only" decades ago.

I've noticed that these events attract sponsors that normally don't buy broadcast radio. So it allows the company to do business with a different group of advertisers. In addition, as Bob Pittman has said regarding payola, the artists who perform at these kinds of festivals don't do it in exchange for increased radio airplay.
