KILE 1560's big rig: overachieving?

Had a meeting the other day in Tyler and decided to hit the scan button on AM on the stock radio in the Ford. It stopped on the usual suspects: the three stations in Tyler and the stronger ones from Dallas and Shreveport. When it landed on 1560, my first thought was Daingerfield, but that would be pushing it for 1,500 watts traveling around 60 miles. After a few seconds I recognized Indian programming from KILE Bellaire, coming in pretty much like a local. No, I couldn't put a meter on it, but it was obvious that their new 50,000 watt signal was making it all the way to Tyler really well, and this was more than two hours before sunset. The distance involved? About 205 miles, due north from new site!

CW (or any fellow SBE guys), considering the supposed layout of the pattern (mainly northeastward), what do you make of this?

I'm only taking a guess, as I'm not an engineer nor am I from the area.

But, radio-locator.com's pattern shows a fair amount of signal with a nice lobe going north... so if you have a decent car radio, with the ground conductivity down there and where away from "downtown" areas full of electrical noise, it is definately possible.... 50KW can do amazing things.

The FCC database now shows KILE as licensed for 50kw daytime, but still in the CP stage for the 1kw nighttime service. Their signal seems stronger now at my Cy-Fair location, but doesn't seem to be 50kw...unless they have yet to fully crank up the transmitter.

Of course, during critical hours the 50kw signal will go quite far along the main lobe to the NNE, especially being in the upper part of the AM band. During the original tests of the 50kw rig, KILE was reported booming in to Illinois and Wisconsin.

Program schedule for KILE is here: http://www.kile1560.com/schedule.htm

Agreed on Critical Hours...when CH occurs (+/-1hr of sunset), the AM band has pronounced enhanced propogation...1160 out of Dallas at 25KW will lay a LOUD signal down toward Beaumont duirng CH but afterwards (and they switch from 25KW to 1KW), they are gone..even though the lobe to the SE is stronger at night than with the 25KW day site. Probably KILE running their new 50KW plant.....I'll see if I can get confirmation on it.

Critical Hours is From Sunrise to 2 hours after and from 2 hours before to Sunset....
