Kiley & Booms: How much more rope?

Wonder how much more rope Kiley & Booms have to hang themselves with before the PD throws in the towel and replaces them as The Fan's morning duo.

I know that here at Clear Channel the speculation has been that everyone at The Fan were on one-year tryouts and that there'd be some changes come August, 2013 as the programming director was able to get an idea of what worked and didn't work in the Cleveland market (hint: guest-driven programming with as little emphasis on "negative nancy" callers as possible).

K & B have been just awful, too "insiderish" with the guests (especially the guy from WOIO) and they keep cutting off and talking over poor Mary Kay Cabot, who's too nice to call them on it on-air.

Yeah, these guys are here to stay. You may not agree with their technique, but they draw a crowd -- for right now. History tells us that Chuck Booms' act gets tired after a couple of years and he'll find himself back out on the street doing Internet sports talk a la Cleveland.com's DSN.

If they were on one-year tryouts, then the one year would've ended this past August, as The Fan went on the air August 2011.

Sounds like Rover found his password for this site. Kiley and Booms (at one time syndicated on over 120 affiliates) are competing big-time with Rover and Lanigan. The last book they were third, and right behind Rover. That's pretty spectacular considering there have been no billboards and no TV advertising. Rover said last week that he's got "dirt" on someone at the Fan and he can't wait to "out" someone with his knowledge the way he did Maxwell. He also said he heard the entire format is flipping to syndicated, which is just embarrassing and delusional.

Chuck is not my personal cup of tea, but their style works and entertains.

Rover's dirt on Maxwell sure did ruin him, by the way! If you consider doing mornings at the legendary WLUP/Chicago being "ruined" that is.

Pretty sure Rover didn't ruin him, but to say that Maxwell has a cushy gig is far from the truth. I'm sure the guy would prefer to do his show in a smaller market like ours than spin tunes on a music intensive morning show.

Poor Rover... Someone is finally giving him some competition here. I'd feel threatened if I were him too. Couldn't be the big Howard replacement, and had to high tail it back here from Chicago. I guess if I were looking at my next landing place, and that was Rochester, NY... I'd be crafting something too

I don't care for Booms at all, but its hard to argue with ratings. Thinking Rover should put his energy into doing a quality show rather than threatening to sling mud about his competition. Certainly some 9th grade antics there....

When Lanigan retires (end of 2013 per his Jan 11 on air confirmation with a caller) CLE morning radio will be a wasteland. Malone & Kullick hopefully stay in tact.... but who knows. By default Rover bumps up as do the rest.

Majic will NOT be the same after Lanigan retires. I wonder if that station will remain music-wise or will change. Plus, with whoever is joining WDOK, mornings will feel completely different.

Okay, so Kiley & Booms are doing well.

Let's change things around. How much more rope does Munch have before Rizzo is forced to throw in the towel and fire him?

We've got to get ONE of these "annoying morning sports talkers" off the air.

Thing is I think Rover has the ability/talent to do a more "mature" morning show, but has certainly found his cash cow with the Rover's Morning Glory set-up, so why change at this point.

I don't listen all that often, but has Lanigan hinted at all at when he might retire?

Excerpt from Lanigan's 1-11-13 show. Caller asks about his alleged retirement...

Of course.. John has the right to change his mind.

How the hell did we go from discussing Kiley & Booms possibly getting fired to Lanigan's retirement? Please start a seperate thread guys if you want to talk about that.

I think it ties into who might dominate mornings locally after Lanigan leaves the airwaves. Rover might be likely to take the top spot for good, and maybe Kiley and Booms might pick up some listeners. Who knows what might happen with any show in the near future. K&B has a fanbase that enjoys the show, and I don't think The Fan is giving up on it yet. You can also forget of Munch leaving KNR/KNR2 unless it's on his terms. CK likes Munch and is not willing to show him the door anytime soon.

Remember this about Munch...he's a sales guy by trade who does an air shift on the side. As long as he brings in the advertisers, he's gold.
